My jimmy , we just put 2 new solenid in it, but we still don't have overdrive?
Inspect the wire leads to your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) or replace your TPS. The TPS is located on the throttle body-follow the accelrator cable where it meets up with the TB its right there, you'll see two lead wires connected to it.
The TPS sends signals to the ECM and the ECM will command when to shift the transmission through out the RPM range. The other thing to if that did not fix the problem, your boost valve in your transmission may be weak and needs to be replaced or the EPC valve may be dirty or faulty can will need to be replaced. Both Boost Valve and EPC are easy fix when the transmission pan is dropped and takes about an extra 10 min to replace both.
Start with the simple, CheckThrottlePosition Sensor (TPS).for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion.Or just replace the ThrottlePosition Sensor ThrottlePosition Sensor (TPS).
Poor line pressure rise due to leaking boost valve, clogged Electronic Pressure Control (EPC filter screen, failing Electronic Pressure Control (EPC solenoid, or worst case leaky seals throughout the Transmission.
Good luck and keep me posted, most likely it's going to be your TPS and check the transmission fluid for level and condition.
Soft shifting, gradual performance degradation: Poor line
pressure rise due to leaking boost valve, clogged EPC filter screen,
failing EPC solenoid, or worst case: leaky seals throughout. Transgo
HD2-C kit fixes first two without removing trans. Seal restorer may fix
last problem, but probably R&R. Also try a transmission flush with
BG brand products (Firestone stocks it).
1-2 or 2-3 shift is slow/soft above part throttle: Trans is on its way out. R&R.
Here is a few simple things you may want to try to do to get more life out of your transmission. Replace the Servo with Corvette servo $30.00, and install a B&M ShiftPluse Electronic Shift Improver $45.00 Part #70380 - B&M ShiftPlus Electronic Shift Improve. Both can be done without dropping the transmission pan. Replace the boost valve with a 0.490" boost valve $15.00 but your going to have to drop the pan, so have it done when you get the transmission oil and filter replaced, only take no more then extra 10 min to do.
The last what would case that would be a faulty solenoid or sticky solenoid, due to dirt and may need to be replaced. Most likely it's going to be a faulty Boost valve, since it's a common part for the 4L60E to weaken and should be replaced every transmission service time of 60,000 Miles.
I have the similiar trans shift problem- but no check engine light. I can get the transmission to shift from 1-2, 2-3, but only by giving full throttle and then letting my foot off the throttle- then it ususally shifts. If the TPS is bad or a shift solenoid bad wouldn't the check engine light be on? This Jimmy 4.3 has not check engine light at any stage of the problem.
Nah, changed the solenoids, boost valve and a new TPS. I would suspect need rebuilt with new clutch packs.

Check the tension on the detent cable at the throttle body it maybe tight!! and it should have approx a 1/4 inch slack in it you will need to release the cable latch button and allow slack in it to insure correct shifting

Almost forgot - When you press the accellerator and the transmission down shifts into passing gear it acts like it moves into neutral.

DONNA YOU CAN CHANCE IT YOUR SEFT. I JUST CHANCE MIND. YOU TAKE OFF THE PAN, & THEY ARE RIGHT THERE.JUST GOT TO FIND OUT THE RIGHT PART. THATS WHY I TOOK OFF THE PAN TO SEE. GOOD LUCK
