My Hyundai Accent 2003 has a problem while filling fuel. It stops every 0.3 gallons. I tried to fill it manually, squeezing the pump very slowly, with no luck. The guy at Tuffy did not have any idea how to go about it and gave me the impression that this could be a tricky problem. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Vent tube is blocked by pieces of carbon. Carbon is like carbon filter you see in fish tanks. If you overfill a lot gas floats the carbon out of the carbon filter plugging up vent tube. take loose vent tube at filter and see if pieces of carbon come out.

The problem that you are having is your charcol canister, i had the same problem on my 03 accent because the charcol canister basicly filters out the vapors the fuel emits as you put gas in your car...IE when you try to fill up you will get pressure kick back and it will shut the pump handle off with the kick back of gas....hope this helps you

Upon filling the tank, push the nozzle in fully were the nozzles seal meets the filler neck rim. Then pull the nozzle out about one or two inches and try that. It seems to work on cars that have a very thin walled gas neck to the tank

Why does the gas pump cut off every 1/2 to 1 gallon on my 2003 Hyundai Accent, at slow pump even when the tank is nearly empty. It doesn't matter what station I go to.

Failure in the Evap System

Check for Evap Codes & diagnose that system

Most likely a failed evap vent solenoid

Google : OBD PO446 thru PO449 & read up

Fuel tank vent problems

Hi there:

There is a tank pressure vent that allows the pressure from the gas entering the tank when you are filling it, to be vented, otherwise it will kick the fuel nozzle off. That vent ties into the same system as the valve in the recall. Ask your dealer.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Why is my 2005 accent going through so much gas? I am thinking a fuel leak somewhere.

You generally would smell a fuel leak. The Accent is a fuel injected vehicle, if the system were leaking, it would be at over 20-40 PSI even at idle, and a fire would be possible and you would know it.

You need to make sure your mileage is low by figuring your MPG (miles per gallon) on a regular basis. Fill up at a station on level ground, reset your trip odometer to keep track of your mileage, drive out that tankfull and go back to that same pump and fill up the same way. Stop at the first click and then do the math. The number of miles since filling up, divided by the number of gallons it took to refill it, give you an average Miles per gallon for your car.

If you compare your figure to the normal specs for your car, you'll know if you need a tune up, new tires, or just to change the old driving habits.

You can use any station with a level filling area, it's just much easier to be more accurate when you use the same station repeatedly with the same pump & setting the handle at the same speed to fill.

Good luck !

Try to fill gas tank, gas pump nozzle clicks off, sometimes as much as 10 times in 1 gallon pumped. Something wrong with pipe to tank?

There should be an air vent coming from the top of the gas tank back to the top of the fuel tank. Possibly kinked or pinched, try pulling the fuel nozzle about half way out and filling the tank on the lowest setting the fuel pump will let you.

Gas will not go in at pump

it will, but only slowly, you cannot use the auto fill pumps......the filler neck has a restrictor inside to stop people syphoning gas out/leaking when turned over....so fill it slowly...

2004 hyundai accent. trouble filling gas tank

I have a 2005 Hyundai Accent, It is not possible to fill the tank if you are letting the petrol pump run at full speed.Trying to fill up quickly it will only build up pressure and cut off. Next time you fill up just pull the petrol pump handle half way, it will take longer to fill but you wont get the blow back. Modern petrol pumps are getting quicker all the time.Hope this helps you.

2004 hyundai accent. trouble filling gas tank

The fill tube for the fuel tank is either clogged with something or the anti-siphon feature (what stops people from stealing your gas) is fouled up. The tank and fill tube have to be inspected.
