do you means the throtle body ........ if the car is fuel ijected there are some sensors afect the fuel injeccion ....the black smog means too much gas then depend on how good you keep your car first if you put cheap gas maybe the o2 sensors are burnd check or clean the mass sensor only use mass sensor cleaner and check for codes MIL CODES

Car stalls when driving

Take notes , when this happens.
For instance : engine warm or cold , outside conditions (cold , hot) , car driven for a while , long or short distance when problem occures etc.... , that may help for diagnosis.
It very well may be temperature relaited , sience it has to sit (cool off) for 5 min.
Ignition coils sometime do that.
I'm mechanic shop owner and intermittent problems are the hardest one , so any piece of iformation on above mentioned events may give a clue.
