2002 toyota camry keeps stalling out. very slow idle, keeps stalling.

Most likely a failed "IAC"; Idle AIr Control valve; located on the side of the throttle body.

What you have is this: Disconnecting the battery caused your car's computer to lose its 'base idle' parameters. This info is kept in the computer, but, removing power to the computer allows the info to be erased, so to speak.

This is, unfortunatly, a normal condition, and, easily rectified.

What you need to do: Get in the car, start it up, and drive it; simulating stop/start city traffic, and then take it out on the highway, hit passing gear a few times, pull off, and let it idle 30 seconds and repeat highway speed, and passing gear a few more times, then simulate city traffic again. You might need to apply a slight bit of gas during the idle periods of the drive. If you do it right, you can reset the base idle parameter under10 minutes.

There are many things in that engine that could cause a hard start and stalling when started, but first thing you can look at are these:

• Malfunctioning fuel system like fuel filter , fuel pressure regulator and/or fuel filter clogged.
• Faulty or damp ignition system this include spark plug wires, coils, etc.
• Faulty coolant temperature sensor.
• Vacuum leak in fuel injection system.

Your carb may need cleaning. I had the same problem with my Astra. If not then there is too much air getting into the engine.

Check the manufacture's Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating.  Some manufacturers recommend a minimum CCA.  If your CCA is below the manufacturer's specs, it can cause your car to run erratically.  This also can cause problems with your computer and give you faulty DTC's. (Diagnostic Trouble Codes - Service Engine Soon Light)  This especially causes problems with General Motors cars.  I'm always hearing of people with these problems.  Let me know how it works.
