Olds Bravada - Whirring sound from the engine fan when running

I have a 2002 Olds Bravda (Chevy Trailblazer). When the engine is running, the engine fan makes a very loud 'whirring' noise that is very noticeable inside the car. I have checked the belt and bolts and anything else I can think of. I have run the engine with the hood up and listened carefully and it appears to be coming from the fan. It would almost seem that the fan blades are not well-designed to operate silently except that this only started a week ago. Before that, the fan did not make a noticeable sound. I do not see any bent, distorted or broken blades - everything looks normal. What else to check?

It is an engine-mounted fan with what appear to be nylon blades that are all attached to a circular band or rim on the outer perimeter of the fan.

OK - That makes sense. I noticed that the fan is hard to turn by hand when the engine is not running.

Thanks - Two responses with essentially the same diagnosis. You guys are darned good.

I'm having the same problem. My shop said it will cost $700 because the whole fan will have to be replaced. Is that correct, or is the fan clutch a replacable part in itself? Thanks.

My 2002 Chevy Trailblazer started acting like it is having trouble getting air. It is not missing and transmission is shifting correctly but is seems like is is struggling for air. Engine sounds like it is...

Does it sound like an airplane or a big rig when you give it gas? If I'm reading you right here, sounds like your fan clutch is stuck engaged. Need to replace the fan clutch, this is a common problem for TB's.

I have a 2003 olds bravda. Why do I hear a clicking noise for about 5 seconds after I start my vehicle?

The clicking comes from worn engine parts that haven't gotten enough lubrication. For instance, the valves may be ticking when first started when engine is cold.

2002 Chevy TrailBlazer Service Engine light is on. The car gives off a loud wind sound when pressing the accelerator. The engine runs smooth but less power.

This one is easy. The clutch fan is not disengaging. Mine does the same thing after it has idled a while but then will release (wind noise stops) after getting up to speed.
