Hestitation on acceleration can be caused by several different things. Most of the time depending on the milage in the vehicle I've found it to be the Throttle position sensor.Try testing the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Get the repair manual for the vehicle and there is a step by step procedure for testing it for resistance. But you will need a scope meter to test test it for a dead spot.(which usually means a repair shop). If this sensor tests ok then there are a list of things that cause hestitation on acceleration which are listed in the shop manual. Shop manuals describe how to check the items relating to the symptoms .and either repair or replace them.
PS One time a customer had this problem and it was due to more then 10% of alchol in the gas tank. (too much ethanol) good luck
Looking at my repair notes on a 2000 Camry with same sympton as your's I diagnosed it as a bad EGR valve. This valve was stuck partially open, this caused a rough idle and hesitation and stumbling during wide open throttle (WOT). I believe it was a Positive Back Pressure EGR Valve and I tested it with a vaccum gauge. The vacuum from the gauge freed it up enough so that at idle if vacuum was applied the vehicle stalled out. ( which is what is suppose to happen) I removed the valve and cleaned out the passage to it and installed a new vavle and gasket and sove the problem.Remember EGR should only work when vehicle is warm and at crusing speed.
It should not open at idle whether the engine is cold or warm and definately not at all at WOT.
Lastly I did a fix one a Camry with same problem where I found combustion cylinder caked with carbon. I used a Borescope to look into the chamber and cleaned each cylinder out with compressed air and a little gum out. Replaced the plugs with a hotter burning plug and that was it. Hope this works for ya keep me posted
