My car makes a deep whining sound pugeot 306 1.9 TD (1996)

look ur cars had already done 13 years i think the drive shaft tooths may be worn out or chk out the fitting of drive shaft positioned properly or not

a whine noise you might want to check your wheel bearings bad axles make knocking or clicking sounds more than a whine

i have just bought a 306 peugeot estate and it is making a noise if it is catching and it is using a lot of petrol what can i do

sounz like the turbo or waste gate may be giving you problems. Check to see the waste gate on the turbo is closing properly.

hey chris, no two cars sound the same, that sound you hear may just be normal for the car, after a few weeks of driving you may not hear it at all, congrats on your purchase, with care and luck you should get 2 to 3 hundred ks of driving, good luck to ya

First ensure your wheels or tyres are not the source of the noise.
Check for faulty wheel bearing or seized/sticking disc brake caliper - particularly if the vehicle has been driven in deep water.
The noise could be caused by the transmission- if so it should be evident if the vehicle is test run with the drive wheels jacked off the ground.

check the exhaust if the cat converter has let go these cars get very noisy you can check the cat by banging on it and checking to see if it rattles if it rattles it is no good.
