My Hyundai Coupe 2ltr SE (2000) has been well maintained, my pride and joy!! But yesterday the warning light for ABS came on mid journey(7 miles) then went off. Today it was off at start of same journey then came on and stayed on. Had new front brake discs, pads etc few months ago, new rear wheel bearings, and new clutch last month. Is this a real problem, dangerous?? The website does not give me the option to enter Hyundai Coupe as a make and model.

Did you scan it what's the code?

take it to an accredited brake specialist shop
I suspect that the brake booster is becoming defective and the small application to the pedal causes excessive booster reaction
the abs section only maintains applied brake fluid pressure as set by the position of the pedal
that is to maintain the pressure as the stopping and start movement of a skidding wheel opens and closes a valve to that wheel /s
if you are on ice that sudden hard braking will cause the wheels to lock and immediately the abs cuts in to allow the wheels to turn and then to allow brake action to be reapplied
if the abs is working under brakes you will get a pulsating feeling under your foot as the fluid pressure is alternation between full on and released by the abs valves

If there are no warning lights on, I would try to bleed the brakes to see if the pedal movement is decreased and braking power is increased.

Also, check the power booster vacuum hose and check valve to see if there are any leaks.

After turning off the car, pull the check valve off of the booster, and see if you hear a loud hiss.

You may want to wait a few minutes, first, to test that the booster holds vacuum over time.

You need to have the brakes checked. While the light is blinking, it is not too serious. When it does not go off, then is when the brake pads need replacement and possibly new rotors. Salt from the hiway during cold weather. Can cause the brake system to "get dirty" or leaking fluid. Fix them ASAP. If one wheel runs very sluggish, and the pads are bad, the wheel on the other side is contaminated bt dirt, sand , fluid etc.

I think your problem has sorted itself. No need to go to garage.

Of course, the first thing to check is your brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir, but often ABS lights are caused by a faulty wheel speed sensor. Most cars can have the codes scanned by a computer to point to the problem, and most auto parts stores will scan your car for free, and tell you what is tripping the ABS light. If your fluid level is ok, and you are driving on good road conditions, it isn't a saftety issue yet, so get some help with a code scan and hopefully you can get a cheap fix!

it is not a "pre warning light", the fact the light went out just means whatever the fault was has corrected itself, this is common on ABS systems, most times it is a dirty wheel speed sensor at one of the 4 wheels.
