I have a 2002 3.2lt V6 auto.
There are no dip sticks in this model. The only way to fill or check the tranny is to use a hoist as the filler / inspection plug sits above the pan and faces vertically.
I found out the hard way when I purchased it in 2008 and as I could not inspect the auto I winged it and purchased it anyway.
Result - $3453.00 in a full rebuild including drive gears as I was towing a camper.
Advice - have the tranny serviced every year, install a large cooler and a good quality guage that reads oil temps.
The truck does have a low oil / over temp warning lamp on the dash, but I wouldn't rely on this too much.

I'm assuming that you have an automatic tranny.
Engine must be warm.
Raise the hood.
Get in and shift thougth ALL gears starting with low and go through up to drive, reverse, ect stopping at each selection for a second or two.
Put in park, reomove the tranny dipstick and wipe off.
Insert and remove dipstick again and check the level.
Add fluid through the dipstick holder if more is needed.
Add the fluid very slowly.

I changed my oil in a 2006 mustang, auto transmission, and refiled with 8 qt transmission fluid. oil started dripping out of the front bell housing.. what could be wrong?

Check to see if it is transmission oil or engine oil. If engine oil then the crankshaft oil seal needs to be replaced. If it is transmission oil, your torque converter maybe leaking. Before doing anything major try checking the hoses that connects from the transmission to the radiator. They could cracked or leaking. Some transmission use oil coolers and ATF filer on the transmission case itself. Check if they aree properly tightened.

Troubleshooting oil leaks on Nissan Altima

Your Altima uses a variety of different oils to lubricate various components. Normally, these oils won't leak. But when you do find a leak, you will almost always need to have extensive work done on your Altima to correct the problem. However, before you can replace anything, you need to know what kind of oil it is
Check for brown or black oil leaking on the ground or on the side of the engine. This is engine oil. It lubricates critical engine components. A leak means that an engine seal has failed and needs to be replaced

Check for red oil. Red oil is trans fluid. On your Altima, it most likely means that you have a rear main seal on the transmission that has failed. However, any seal on the transmission is possible. Transmission leaks need to be fixed immediately. A transmission can fail catastrophically in 20 minutes of driving if there is insufficient oil in the transmission

Check for amber or brown oil leaking from your trans. This is transmission gear oil found only on the manual version of the Nissan Altima.

Does the Ssangyong Rexton sports 2.7 with the 722.6 transmission have a cooler for the transmission oil?

most automatic transmission use a cooler located in a radiator tank to cool the transmission oil
check for oil pipe s in one of the tanks
Personally , I find that it is more efficient to use an air to air oil cooler for automatic transmissions as the radiators are running hard to cool both the engine and the hot oil from the transmission
As the transmission oil gets to excess of 150C the oil is never less than 100C from the radiator but using the external cooler , the temp can come down to ambient temp or less making for better oil life in the transmission

Transmission

There are two types of transmissions in 1991 Toyota Corolla. Manual Transmission and Automatic Transmission.
1. Manual Transmission:
The transmission oil is checked through a level bolt which is provided to the left CV joint side in the middle of transmission. To check the oil level, park the car on a level floor, remove the level bolt with 22 mm or 24 mm spanner. If the oil starts coming out of this hole the oil level is considered OK. If not, top up the oil till it starts coming out and tighten the bolt. The recommended manual transmission oil grade is 75W/ 90W and total capacity is 2.4 Litres.

2. Automatic Transmission:
Warm up the engine, park the car on level floor, pull up the hand brake, gear lever stick in P, keep the engine start, let the radiator fan come on, take the auto-transmission stick out, wipe it with a clean dust free cloth, insert it in, again take it out, keep the stick in horizontal position and check the oil level. At operating temperature the auto-transmission oil level should be at upper level (Hot). If not, add oil to mach the mark. The recommended auto-transmission oil is Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Dexron II, and total (drain and refill) capacity is 1.4 Litres.

  3. Check the color and smell of the oil. If it is black in color or smells burnt, further transmission service is needed.
  4. Wipe off oil level gauge with clean cloth.
  5. Fit the oil level gauge to the transaxle side case so that the threads rest on top of the case.
  6. Remove the gauge and check oil level. The level should be between FULL and LOW level line.
  7. If the level is below LOW mark, add oil until the proper level is reached.
