I have a 2006 Pontiac G5 Pursuit. We have had it in to the dealership for the same front end rattling noise 5 times in less than a year. The steering wheel shakes and it sounds as though the front end is going to rattle apart. This is especially apparent at fairly low speeds going over uneven surfaces.
Steering column, sway bar links, bushings, struts, and intermediate shaft have all be replaced at least once, if not twice. Problem appeared fixed each time for 6-8 weeks then returns and worsens over just a few weeks.
I just want to know if there is another underlying problem or a better solution to this problem. I am getting extremely frustrated.
We had the same problem brought to our shop and what it ended up being is the vehicle was in an accident a it twisted the unbody frame just enough to the point it would throw off the front end angles and it has the same vibrating / rattling noise from the front end. But there area list of different problems as well
Sounds like a body weld issue ( as this is a unitized body design). Several US GM models prone to this. No real good cure.
I have same make, model and year. Also have the same issue. very frusturating

Thanks for the input. This time they say it's the Steering Rack - I've just had a good look at how the Steering Rack, the intermediate shaft, and the steering column are connected and I'm definitely not convinced that these problems are all independent of each other as GM and the dealership would like me to think. Who knows, it could be a body issue, but our car has never been in an accident, and gets most of it's km's on the highway, but doubt there's any chance that gm would take responsibility for a body issue!
