Hi, I hope you can advise me. My 2002 grand caravan has fuel issues . After I fill up with gas and then drive, the fuel gauge doesn't start to move down until I have driven about about-80 miles, then starts to drop. If the gauge shows that I have 1/2 tank of gas, I really don't have that much. I have to look at the odometer to see when I have to really get gas. the digital reading on the panel above the rear view mirror is in sinc with it (it reads that I have 347 miles worth of gas in the tank when i fill up and still does when I have driven 80 miles) when it finally starts to lower and reaches 120 miles left, I worry that I should get gas. Does this mean the float in the gas tank is malfuntioning? is it fixable or do I have to replace the gas tank?

Why is my gas guage is going up and down in my 1999 caravan?

Could be power fluctuations to the fuel gauge sending unit, a bad sending unit or a bad gauge. The sending unit would be the most likely cause.

Just bought a '92 plymouth Acclaim with 37000 miles. It's in great shape but I'm not sure if the fuel guage is working. Only drove it home, less than 10 miles. Is the guage mechanical or...

There's a float inside the tank that the fuel gauge works off of. If you step on the brakes or accelerate hard it causes the gas inside the tank to slosh around and you can see the fuel gauge move when you do this. If you know the vehicle has gas in it, the best way to check if the gauge is bad is to drive around enough to where you should have burnt a noticeable amount of gas. If the gauge doesn't move, then there's something wrong with it.

Since the gauge moved when you braked hard, I would assume it's working properly because it picked up on the level change inside the tank where the float's at.

Your gauge is reading high ... I think you are out of gas. You should calculate your actual Miles Per Gallon - find out what the capacity of your tank is and fill accordingly. For esample, you actually get 15 miles per gallon, your tank is 20 gallons - you should be able to drive about 300 miles between fillups. At 250 miles, start looking for a station.

My 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan fuel gauge does not move. I have gas in the tank, but the gauge shows the tank is empty (in fact, the dial is ~ 1/4" below "E").

the level sending unit in the tank is attached to the fuel pump module it is a varible resistor it moves as fuel level changes this sending unit can be replaced but if your going to the trouble of replacing it you just as well replace the fuel pump it comes together.

I had the same problem. My battery was going bad. When I replaced it with a new one, the fuel gauge worked fine.
