Can I repair airflow meter instead of replacing it

Ideas in the link for not changing gears. Seems a known issue.

THe microfilter is just the filter. The oil filter is available off the shelf at advance auto parts. It's the original equipment German brand, "Mann". It's about $12.00. The price of $300 you were quoted is more the range for a transmission oil change, not engine oil.

Don't be confused about the word"microfilter". Again, it just means the filter, same as any other car.

If you mean the engine coolant fan, then yes most fans will run until the engine cools down to a specific temp.

While it is possible to convert any E39 from an automatic to a manual, it is a very difficult and expensive task. Cost depends entirely on the parts you want to use (new or used?). While you could perform the changeover mechanically, the electronics & wiring issues would likely be prohibitive to do the work yourself - there are multiple computers in the 530i, and all of the systems management in an automatic are different from those in a car with a manual transmission.
