I drive a 1999 Volvo S70, and it recently hit a snow pile hard enough to make the plastic cover underneath fall down. Can I take this off?

If you mean the plastic protective pieces under the car that keep debris from hitting the engine, yes you can take them off. You'll do best if you can get the car to the same shop that rotates your tires and have them lift it and unscrew the fittings that hold the pieces in place. If you are handy and fit under the car, you can do it yourself in a pinch.

If it's the front bumper cover, it will come off too but will take more time/work since you have to gain access to the screws/pins that hold it every few inches.

Where is the knock sensor

It is on the side of the Cyl. Block underneath the Intake Manifold just to the right of the PCV System. While you have it apart I would suggest replacing the PCV System entirely.

1999 s70 volvo driver door won't open from outside or inside

I am working on this RIGHT NOW. Remove panel (see Utube) remove white cover (Torx 25) from interior of exterior handle. You will see that lifting the handle pushes a rod down The rod is attached to the bottom half of the mechanism via a cheapo plastic connection, that can work loose. It is like a screw shaft (top) that squeezes (sideways) into a blue plastic channel which merely pinches the "screw shaft" to hold it. The connection has come loose. Squeeze upper shaft into (lower) blue channel. Added tiny bit of epoxy to bond "screw shaft" onto blue plastic gripper. Done. Saved $500.

Having trouble removing the gear shifter panel to replace the lamp- it no longer lights up- for 1999 volvo s70

Great question.

You don't remove the shifter, you have to remove the panel around it first.
You start by removing the coin holder then the stuff holder, they just pop off. If you have heated seats then you pop the buttons from bellow and unplug them. Pull the panel up carefully. Sometimes spilled soda that got into the shifter cover make it stick like glue. I use plastic wedges to not damage anything, You can pull it up half way or just take it all of. The e-brake handle cover pops off too and just pop it off at the center console.
While your there make sure to wipe it all clean and retrieve all the coins that fell in. lol

Location and how to get to Spark-Plugs on Volvo 2000 GTL , I've removed both Black Plastic covers on top of engine and do not recognise anything... Please advise ... Thankx. Kelly

There are 5 ignition coils above each plug, remove the 2 bolts for each coil, pull up on the coil and you'll see the plug underneath, replace the plugs. Make sure you mark the coils before you remove them so they go back in the same place.

1999 Volvo S70 emitting black smoke from exhaust

Sounds like computer to me , black smoke might just be due to fuel /air mixture.
Avoid dealerships , find a reputable mechanic.
Almost any shop can plug your car into a diagnostic computer .
If you live close to me , I would be happy to take an s-70 off your hands :)
