You need to find the source of the check engine light. Fortunately on the '92 you have OBD-I and can check this yourself. This site explains it pretty well...

http://www.freeautomechanic.com/diagnostictroblecodes5.html

but the code list is incomplete.

This place gives a more complete code list
http://www.gmtuners.com/OBD1_DTC.htm

Or this place has codes too.
http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/

The error code can point you in the right direction for which engine system has the problem, but you will need to run some checks to nail down the specific cause of the code.

Acts like it isn't getting fuel, chokes out

Hello,

Do you have an engine light? Throwing a code?
Just does this at idle or when driving/acceleration?
Acting strange changing symptoms (E.G.--idle to acceleration to black smoke out exhaust, etc.)? Plenty of Gas in tank?

I am thinking: No engine light
Clog in fuel filter
intermittent fuel pump problem
A vehicle starting sensor (E.G.--Throttle Position Sensor (TPS))
Main computer
Engine Light: Pull Code
Sensor

I hope this helps.

Mercury mistake

Exhaust leaks can throw off the oxygen sensors, which affect engine fuel and timing. Moving out of park could be a problem with the shift linkage. Start by checking your transmission fluid level and color. Get the codes read and start fixing whatever is causing the check engine. Most states car inspections will fail a car with the check engine light on so you need to cleanup the problems before your next inspection.

Temp gauge pegging out, but engine isn't hot to the touch.

You could replace the sending unit to cross it off the list of possible problems.
You could check resistance cold and then with the engine at normal temp too. The gauge on the dash could be faulty too.

Changed the CPS on my 01 330i and still getting same code, car still acting strange. Any suggestions??

This could come from a variety of places... in no particular order... the "new" CPS is bad (get another one)... The battery is weak or has low voltage (replace battery)... The DME may need an update / DIS CD 30.0 or higher... dealer or good Independent shop can do this) last one to look at is the fuel filter (replace)
