My "check engine" light is on and the computer says cvvt solenoid/circuit malfunction. Do I need to rush to the dealer, ignore it or what?

2007 Accent, code P0012, checked CVVT valve OK, wiring to and from PCM OK. Found cvvt oil filter dirty, replaced did not solve problem. I'm thinking the CVVT control gear is bad.

The main thing to check is to verify the operation of the VCT solenoid. You're looking for a sticking or stuck VCt solenoid valve caused by contamination. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

O/d light blinks when driveing o/d seems to be engaged car has 198000 miles and runs very good also engine light is on

O/D light blinks, but with that the check engine light is ON.--- This will make your troubleshooting easier. When the check engine light comes on, and remains on, this indicates that there is error stored in your cars computer.---- Once the computer is scanned, you will get error codes, as per that error code it will point towards faulty part, which is causing the O/D light to blink.-------- Most probably the O/D light blinks, If a problem exists in No. 1 or No. 2 solenoids or speed sensors .
--------------- For car after 1995 it requires OBD2 tool and for car before 1995 it requires OBD1 tool.------- --------- You car will require OBD1 tool. There are very few auto parts store and repair centers who have OBD1 tool.In your case you required OBD1 tool.------ You can just contact local auto-parts store and they will guide you to the nearest store who has OBD1 tool. There you can get your car scanned. If there is error set in your cars computer, then you will receive the error code.As per error code it will point towards the faulty part causing this problem in your car.------------- -------------- The codes which you get is scanning will be mostly any of this following codes:--- DTC P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
. DTC P0750 - Shift Solenoid "A" Malfunction
. DTC P0753 - Shift Solenoid "A" Electrical Malfunction
. DTC P0755 - Shift Solenoid "B" Malfunction
. DTC P0758 - Shift Solenoid "B" Electrical Malfunction
. DTC P0770 - Shift Solenoid "E" (SL) Malfunction
. DTC P0773 - Shift Solenoid "E" (SL) Electrical Malfunction
. DTC P1520 - Stop Light Switch Signal Malfunction
. DTC P1705 - Direct Clutch Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
. DTC P1765 - Shift Solenoid Valve SLN Circuit Malfunction
. DTC P1780 - Park/Neutral Position Switch Malfunction
--------------- Now it all depends on what code you get, as per that you can replace the following part.------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Is replacing the Seals and CVVT a part of the timing belt service that is normally done around 105,000 miles? If not and this service is done separately, how much should this run? I had the timing belt...

no
they are different items
get a quote from an accredited service center on the CVVT system
have the fault codes read as it is normally a solenoid or servo that needs replacing
it is a unit that changes the valve timing for different engine speeds and is less than the price suggested

Engine code P0010 canshaft position actuator circuit How would you begin to fix this problem thank you

The CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system is installed to the chain sprocket of the exhaust camshaft. There is no variation in valve timing of the exhaust cam because the exhaust camshaft is driven by the timing belt. The timing of the intake cam is varied by the relative operation the CVVT vane to the housing. This system helps the engine decrease exhaust gases and increase engine power and fuel economy by changing the valve open/close timing of the intake camshaft.

The code you are getting can be caused by a mechanical problem with the CVVT or with an Engine Control Module (ECM) malfunction. The most common cause of a mechanical failure of this system is debris clogging the very small oil ports that control the position of the CVVT vane hub. Improper oil viscosity can affect this as well as deposits caused by not changing oil at the specified intervals.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that deals with properly checking the CVVT system for mechanical/electrical failures. It is bulletin Number 09-EM-002.
