I'm not familiar with your car, but the distributor rotor should turn whenever the engine is cranked, if not check to make sure the rotor screw isn't missing (if it has one, some are held in with a spline instead), try spinning the rotor by hand if the rotor turns but not the shaft the rotor is broken, if the shaft spins the drive gear pin is sheared or the cam gear is shot.

SOURCE: how to install a distributor cap and rotor on a 1985 chevy truck?

I have had good luck with Echlin caps and rotors that are from NAPA.
You are going to need to mark your spark plug wires so you can get them back on the new cap in the right place. Tape with numbers on it or what ever you can come up with. There should be 4 screws around the lower part of the cap. Take your screwdriver and push down on the screw and turn like a quarter turn counter clockwise and you will see it release from the distributor. If you look at the new cap you will be able to see how it works. Once you have the cap off you will have to transfer the coil to the new cap. There should be 2 small screws on the top of the cap that hold the cover over the coil.
I think there are 4 screws holding the coil in to the cap and you will have to pull the wires and terminals out of the cap as you are removing the coil. Be careful when you retighten the screws in new cap.
When you replace the rotor you will see by looking at the bottom of it that it can only fit one way and lock on to distributor.
Just take your time. If you have any problems I will try to help.

SOURCE: 1999 nissan frontier is idling rough the truck

This can be your Idle control valve, when you turn the air on it puts the engine under load and your computer will increase the idle automatically to prevent the engine from cutting out.
When you are standing still and the car is shaking, by touching the accelerator very softly does the shaking stop? If so check the idle control valve.
I hope this will help.

Sam

SOURCE: My 2000 Nissan Frontier has sputtering problems

your tach is run by the engine computer, possible cause. also by the crankshaft position sensor, most likely cause, I would start there. some sensors will run within perimeters and be bad enough to cause a lot of problems

I have a 94 Nissan hard body cab in a half 4x4 3000 v6 I took the dust cap off and turned the motor to get at the rotor screw did I screw up by doing this

Do you mean you removed the distributor cap to work on the rotor inside the distributor? If you did not remove or loosen the distributor hold down bolt, you have done nothing that will affect spark timing or distribution. The distributor cap only fits on one way, so once you have replaced it and fastened it back down, your engine should run OK (if it was running OK before you removed the cap).

Just did tune-up on 2000 altima changed plugs wires distributor cap and rotor air filter changed oil and filter car started like a top drove 10 miles shut car off now won't start.

Really need more info here. Does the engine turn over? If so check all your connections again. Also check plug and coil wires and distributor cap. If engine won't turn over it's probably the battery.

My 2000 Nissan frontier runs great for about 15 minutes then starts sputtering tach starts jumping. Changed distributor cap & rotor button plug wires fuel filter & crank shaft position sensor. What...

I would want to monitor fuel pressure as the engine warms up. But it could also be a coil or ignition module problem, even a relay.
Any chance the check engine light is on ?

I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier, the distributor rotor doesn't turn?

This is an indication that the gear at the base of the distributor has broken. More seroius situation would be a broken gear on the cam.
If the rotor is truly not turning, the distributor needs to be pulled to check the condition of each gear.

Make certain that the rotor is pushed down securely onto the distributor post, too.

I installed a oil pump, a destributer cap, rotor, wires and plugs in a 2000 nissan frontier 4 cylinder and now it wont start

You probably inserted the pump wrong. The timing mark on the balancer must be at TDC. Then when you put the pump in, the rotoe should point in the direction of #1 cylinder. If you know that you had these things in order, you probably need to turn the crank one turn. If you set it up with an open valve instead of both valves closed, you are exactly 180° off. Tou can turn the distributor 180° and see if that helps but, it will mess with anyone else that would ever work on it.

Can't get the truck started. I can get the truck to turn over but will not fire up. I think my distributor is not aligned. I removed it yesterday to do some other repairs.

determine cylinder number 1, set timing marks to Top Dead Center compression stroke for number 1 cylinder, with all marks properly aligned, install distributor with rotor pointing to the number 1 pole on the distributor cap. leave room for timing adjustment, by slowly dropping distributor into hole & carefully making fine adjustments 1 tooth at a time
