My 1999 concorde shuts off while in traffic or stop and go situation, this also occurs with car going into limp mode(flashing check engine light)car will begine to sputter/hesitate then shut off,and i have to wait a while before it restarts i also get a cylinder misfire when this happens(random) when the vehicle is cold it runs/idles perfectly. i am narrowing it down to a fuel pump,or electrical problem,or possibly a crank sensor. any suggestions? thanks

A flashing cel means there is a catalyst damaging misfire. As far as shutting down after 4 flashes, it sounds like it's going into limp mode. You should get this fixed as soon as possible before more damage occurs.
The engine light is telling you there is a problem with the cars engine management computer. It is common when this occurs for the computer to shut down many of the functions and put the car into "limp home" mode. In limp home mode you lose a lot of power and the fuel consumption will increase. You need to stop driving the car as soon as possible and get it to a dealer who can diagnose the problem and find a solution. Do not ignore the light and continue to drive the car as it will damage other things like the catalytic converter which will cost you a lot of money to fix.
I have a 1999 TERRANO QD32ETI engine and the problem which the local agents and private mechanics cannot solve is that when it's on the highways the engine performs well; that is it accelerates perfectly. However, when the vehicle comes to a dead stop, and you go for a quick take off the engine cuts out; it restarts quickly; now, when you make a slow acceleration after stopping the engine does not stall, but this can be a dangerous situation when crossing traffic on the highway or moving off from the traffic lights. We checked the computer, fuel pump and the injectors; our opinions differ and somehow we feel the problem may be the fuel pump. We would appreciate your comments. Our many thanks for your kind assistance. Thanks Tony.
the car is going into limp mode due to an engine management fault. have to check what the fault is with a code reader. if the milage is high 100,000+ could be a turbo fault (overboosting), as this will put the car into limp mode.
you should also replace the input speed sensor, they should always be done in pairs and i have had both of them bad on numerous vehicles, hope this helps
There is a faulty sensor or valve. Sounds like a valve. The best thing to do, is take it somewhere that can diagnose the trouble code. Autozone can I believe, and they can tell you exactly what's going on with it.
It sounds like the output speed sensor is bad, but without a code it is hard to say. It will cause it to go into limp in mode which is 2nd gear without an up or downshift.
in the owners manual the sport light does a couple things depending on the make up of your catera.
start there, i don't have the owners manual with me or i would review.
