Parking brake on my 01 kia rio(standard) no longer holds

The parking brake on my 01 kia rio (standard transmission) no longer holds my car when i set it. the tension is fully tightened at the handle, and the regular brakes work just fine, so idk where the problem is. i replaced everything in the rear brakes except the drum in the summer of 08 and have put about 25-30k on them since then. i'm not sure if i replaced the parking brake parts tho, because i did it with my buddy.

You may want to revisit those rear brakes to make sure the parking brake linkage is hooked up properly. There is usually a spring that needs to go over the parking brake linkage and make sure the cross bar is facing the right direction and holds both the shoes and the parking brake linkage.

Parking brakes are adjusted at and with the rear brakes,..(drum brakes that is),.....as you adjust the rear brakes to have a slight drag as you spin tire, the parking brake is adjusted at the same time,...they work together with that one adjuster,....as you pull on the parking brake, it makes the brake shoes spread apart just as they do when you push the brake peddle,..by adjusting the rears you'll also find that the brake peddle feels better too.

2001 Kia rio automatic but it sounds like a standard, like I need to shift gears. Transmission ????

If it doesnt shift at proper speeds when its driving, then yes, the transmission. Make sure the fluid is full when engine at operating temp., idle. in park. If it's full, and no obvious shifter linkage problems, then you need to have it looked at by a transmission shop.

How do i adjust e brake on 2006 kia rio

The Kia Rios (assuming yours is equipped with rear disc brakes) utilize a system that incorporates the parking brake into the rear calipers. What this means is there really isn't a way to adjust the brake itself, since it is part of your rear service brake. If you really wanted to you could adjust the cable at the parking brake lever. This would more than likely require removing your center console to get to it. The problem is if you over adjust, you will cause constant contact between the rear pads and the disc, causing premature padwear. You really shouldn't ever need to adjust the parking brake, but if your really wanted to, that would be how to do it.
