2000 ford super duty 7.3 diesel will not cold start

2000 ford super duty 7.3 diesel, simply refuses to start unless it is plugged in, even at 55 or 60 degrees. Replaced 2 bad glow plugs, they are getting power (all 8). New wiring harnesses and valve cover gaskets, no improvement. Runs fine once it starts, blows no smoke on start up. Burns no oil between changes. The injectors are simply not firing when the engine is not warm. Stumped.

You need to have the engine coolant switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

Won't start below 40 degrees, wait to start light does not even come on

Your glow plug controller is out, or there is an interruption in its power source, etc. Diesels are coldblooded by nature, and most need glow plugs to heat them up before starting in cold weather. The controller supplies the power to the glow plugs, but if it goes bad, or its supply of power isn't there, it won't start in cold weather, and that wait to start light which is also controlled by it won't come on.

Problems With Cold Starts.

I know for some models that Ford had another Diesel timer for the glowplugs for severe weather. This timer was meant to keep the glowplugs on longer.

I had an 87 Ford Diesel and the top wires on the timer were tight and clean. For some reason when I loosened them and retightened the wires the timer worked better.

Many truckers use a Diesel additive and usually the fuelstops have modified Diesel for cold climates. I understand there is a Cetane rating for Diesel and Premium Diesel may help.

2000 f350 diesel has a cold start problem i changed glow plugs did not solve the problem

There should be a delay (hold off) until the glow plugs have done theirwarm up thing. Usually a minute oe so. Don't immediately crank the engine. give it about 30 seconds in the on position before cranking.
The glow plugs are like the coils on an electric stove. The heat up is not instant alrhough a little faster.

I have a 1999 Ford F450 super duty diesel. It

Replace the glowplug relay. Its faulty. The glow plugs stay on until engine warms up.The engine temp switch then activates the relay to switch off.So it could be the temp switch also faulty.
