yes, I think I have found the part, but I am having trouble locating the existing one. I read that it is at the gas tank on the drivers side. I did not see it there. Is the in a different location for 2006 model GMC?

Have you tried your local auto parts store? Be sure to have know your model (there are 7 different GMC Sierra models) and engine size (there are 7 engines available in 2006) so the can look it up.

Have you figured out your problem yet? I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 5.3 reading the same code of P0449 and P0445. I was told possible vacuum leak to check all the vacuum hoses and then to check the purge and vent solenoid and EVAP canister. I refuse to go to the dealer cause they charge an arm and and both legs...I think i am going to take to a local shop to run a test on the hoses first..before I start guessing on parts to replace cause it can get kinda pricey..Advance Auto Parts can order the parts and Autozone does not carry...
Let me know if you figure your problem out it would be a great help as I have been dealing with this for a year now.

While looking for the location of the vent/solenoid for you, I came across a blog that said this error can be caused by a loose or faulty gas cap. You may want to look at that first and possibly solving the problem. Replace the cap, get autoparts store to reset the code and see what happens.

How to repair and where is located P0449 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

Purge Solenoid and Vent Valve are two different items within the Emissions system. The purge valve is under hood near intake manifold and the vent valve is under bed near fuel tank. I would suggest that you verify what the real problem is before buying any parts. It could get expensive to "guess" at this system.

P0443 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit
P0444 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Open
P0445 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit
P0447 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Open
P0448 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit Shorted
P0449 Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit

P0458 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit Low
P0459 Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit High

At least the cap isn't loose for the gas tank.

I would clear the code with an OBD-II Scanner 'erase code' button, and see how long it takes for it to come back.

Code po449 is for bad  solenoid vent valve. After replacing the valve  check for the   12 volts at the "pink" wire.
This error relates too

The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the vent valve/solenoid in the evaporative emission control system.

Definition:
EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) purge/vent solenoid circuit condition

Explanation:
The solenoids and system wiring are monitored for opens or shorts

Probable Causes
1- Purge or vent solenoids defective.
2- Check connector and wiring.
3- Fuel saturated vapor canister.

The cost of the vent solenoid valve is near to 30 bucks. And the valve is located near the gas tank.

Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
