You will probably need some Ether based starting fluid. You may have to remove air filter to shoot a 2 second blast into the intake - but first try shooting the air intake with the 2 second blast and start vehicle. Diesel fuel tends to thicken in cold weather and a fuel additive like Lowes diesel fuel treatment may help keep your fuel fluid in colder weather. In cold weather, like on a night of clear skies causing low temperatures, a block engine heater will help to keep your fuel fluid - along with the diesel treatment. Block heaters are not too difficult to install depending on your vehicles configuration and how much room you have at a freeze plug, and are well worth the cost. Hope this helps and please rate my solution!!
A very common fault with them in cold weather is the lift pump, an in-line torpeedo like pump situation half walf between fuel tank and engine under the car.
Part number is 16146767383 however buy off BMW it'll be expensive so order the exact same one off Land Rover under part number WQB100482 and save £££s ;o)
Try to check the Fuel fump relay, sometimes the contact is burn out and cause of hard starting. it is located at the back of junction box. you have to remove Glovebox to access it.
DEPENDING HOW COLD OUT IT IS DIESELS DONT LIKE TO START IN COLD WHEATHER UNLESS THE GLOW PLUGS ARE WARM THIS IS THE REASON FOR PLUGGING DIESELS IN MOST WONT START IF ITS COLD OUT IF ITS NOT THAT COLD OUT IT SHOULD START IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY POWER MAYBE THERES NOT ENOUGH FUEL GETTING UP TO THE THROTTLE BODY HOPE THIS HELPS
