I dunno if this has anything to do with it, but recently my mom was driving my 2000 mercury cougar and hit about a 15 inch boulder which could have possibly run the whole length of my car. For the past few days, its progressively gotten worse starting with a few sputters while driving causing my lights to dim and lose power temporarily. Then, i driving and was stopped on a hill, and it did that same thing only it sounded like it wanted to die. Later that night, I revved it at idle to about 2500 rpm, and when it would go back down it would stop at exactly 1500 for a few seconds then proceed down to 500 where the lights would flicker and it would sputter again. The next day before school i let my car warm up for longer than usual and it was the worst. I didn't even have to press the throttle and it would rev up and down on its own. Finally, it did that one time really bad and died out. My engine, oil, and battery lights all came on. I also don't know if this means anything, but my coolant light was on a few random days prior to this... please help!!!
Well when the car shuts off or stalls your check engine , oil . battery lights are all going to come on the oil light is telling you there is no oil pressure due to the car not running the battery light is going to come on due to the alternator not pushing any juice because the car is not running and the check engine light also now. check under the car and make sure that your moter did not cut,rip or fray any wires comming from the starter area. this could be a big problem and make lights flicker and the car to run funny.

It sounds as though you ma have damaged wiring leading to and from your alternator and / or computer. Usually, all 3 lights will appear when the alternator isn't getting enough juice and not charging the battery properly. Have you noticed any fluid leaks since the car was struck?
I just had the same problem with both lights coming on but no loss of power to lights or radio. Just had the recall of my airbags replaced. Someone suggested they might have tripped something called the Fuel Cutoff Switch and suggested my mechanic check that before installing a new alternator? Does that make any sense?
Have the exact same problem with my 2010 Mercury Milan since the newly installed airbag from the recall. I will have my mechanic check the Fuel Cutoff Switch. Thank you.
