Removed the inspection cover for the lock mechanism on the inside of the back hatch and used a screw driver to manually unlatch the door while someone else was pulling on the handle. It turned out there was a lot of glass around the pocket where the lock mechanism was possibly binding the lock

2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Rear Hatch Won't Open. I already opened up the interior panel and trigger mechanisms are working fine. I think the latch itself is stuck, probably because I had my back window...

I'd love to know how this turned out as have the same problem with 2009 Santa Fe now.
Broken rear window has been removed but cant open the hatch.
I have removed the internal liner and all the lever rods are attached. A bit of glass inside the door and I have tried banging on the door to unblock it. Squirted CRC in the area and will leave until daylight and have another go.

My 1999expedition rear glass hatch is keeping the door ajar & interior lights on ,were is the sensor for this lock to let it know the glass is closed?.

Had the same issue. I think the sensor is on the latch. I sprayed a lubricant all over the latches of the window and and back door. Done and done.

My rear hatch want open from the outside nor will the glass open. I had it checked and they said it wasn't getting power to the door but didn't know what the problem was.

I had the same trouble and found that I had to disconnect the glass hatch switch. It is probably defective like mine. I had to release the door by going from the inside and opening a little plastic door and open the whole hatch by using the emergency lever. Then I had to unscrew the plastic panel near the glass hatch and pry it apart just enough to disconnect the glass hatch switch. It is just a small connector that pulls apart. There are two connectors. One for the back wiper and then the glass hatch so make sure you disconnect the right one. This allows me to use the whole door but the glass hatch becomes useless unless you get a new switch.

You will need to remove the hatch panel, and release it manually. It is a pain in the **** with the hatch closed, but it can be done.

92 4 runner HATCH ISSUE!

Turn on the rear window wiper . Try to get the wiper arm off the glass. There is a switch that will not let the window operate if the wiper is on the glass.

Rear Window Broken

Ed is right, there is lots of screws and pop off caps, Have some tape ready to stick them to the panels you are taking off. And write down the succession as you take them off. I had 4 sections in my 1992 4Runner and then the seat belt in back had to be unscrewed from roof. Good Luck. Oh and I had glass in the compartment in the back over rear tires, found it like 1year later!

Hatch problem

The glass did close and neither the glass or rear hatch would open. It did turn out to be the lower hatch switch which I had replaced.
Thanks for the follow up.
