I recently purchased a 2008 Saab 9-3 but the owner didn't have the original key so do I need to purchase a new immobilizer as well as a new key!

No just a new key / keys. The key talks to the immobilizer and sets you up. Make sure you get two keys, have them cut and then both paired to the immobilizer module. You just need a good auto-locksmith.. Never end up with only one key and then no keys.

And no you can't bypass the immobilizer, especially on a Saab!

2004 Saab 93. My battery went flat on my Saab whilst away for 6 weeks. On trying to jump start it lights come on dashboard but will not turn over. Any ideas how to fix this please.

You need to reset the immobilizer and alarm. You may need an auto-locksmith or auto electrician. First though, make sure the battery is fully charged and has at least 12.4 volts.

My immobilizer does not recognise my key fob

Put key in ignition.
Press unlock button on key fob.
Immobilizer should now recognize it, if it was original fob but car or fob battery was changed or is now low.

Saabs are particular about batteries that are otherwise good, but just below 12 volts.

1. Try locking and unlocking of the doors five times with the remote to reset the immobilizer.

2. Key in ON position push Open button on key fob.

Our saab was driving fine, we parked and went shopping after an hour came out and it wont start. Replaced the battery and it still wont start. It is a manual so we are able to pop the clutch and it...

Sounds like an immobilizer/alarm issue...only way to properly diagnose is with a Saab factory scan tool...unfortunately..
Try another key if you have one....also lock and unlock the vehicle a few times with the key fob...or door key to insure the alarm/immobilizer has been turned off.

Hope this helps!

How to bypass the anti theft system 2003 saab 9-3

Not easy. Are all the key fobs giving you the same problem?

If so, they are not be recognized by the Immobilizer. Either need to be paired again (GM dealers have the tool but charge a lot, shop around) or you need new immobilizer and paired key fobs.
