When you press the button for the remote trunk lid it will only open the trunk occasionally. Most of the time it doesn't work. You can hear it trying to open it but it isn't. Any suggestions?

(Try to push down the trunk lid before pressing the fob)
ok, let's assume you got it open. Closely inspect the bundle of wires that go into the trunk lid. You will find a small section that will flex when the lid goes from closed to full open. That's the spot to look VERY closely at the flex point. You may find a wire that looses contact due to mechanical agitation while previous openings and closings of the trunk ( a million times).
Fix the wire and spray the trunk latch first with penetrating lube then with pure lube. WITH THE LID STILL OPEN check the remote and the dash button and ensure rhe actions actuate the trunk lid solenoid at the latch.
Lower the back seat and crawl into the trunk and see what the latch is doing when you activate the key fob. the trunk lid will have to be open to enable any repairs. Also an emergency release cable is probably visible (yellow handle) inside the trunk and will Open the trunk lid.
The trunk release rod is made of plastic and it is adjustable, it came
apart. You have to fold down the back seat, remove the trunk lid liner
and pull on on the plastic piece connected to the latch mechanism on the
deck lid. It is a little difficult but is the only way to get in. You
can buy the plastic piece from V.W. its cheap. When you install the new
piece, use a screw driver to close the latch and try to open it with
your key fob or button, this way you won't shut it and not be able to
open it because it is not adjusted properly. there should be very little
play (movement) between pod and latch if adjusted correctly. The rod
connects to a vacuum pod for the key fob to operate the trunk remotely.
good driving

sounds like it could be the latch mechanism is seized(rare but does happen) and you could try forcing the trunk lid open while using the remote button at the same time and it may pop open, other wise the release motor is not working properly(motor making noise but not moving),you should get a trunk key made just for this type of reason(any thing electrical or electronic will fail).otherwise you will have to access to the trunk some how to repair the problem.
If the actuator mechanism is functioning (you hear the click) the next step is to see if the cable is connected to the latch. Open your trunk and press the button - watch what happens. You may have to manually 'lock' the trunk with the trunk lid open to observe the action. You can always unlock this latch with your key if necessary.
Just beneath the latch ,you can see a clip, turn it up and close the trunk.Try opening it with the button near dash or remote. It should work. They designed it to avoid theft during vallet parking. The main key(steel one) is used only for ignition. There is another key(with a black rubber head) is for ignition and trunk. So if you want to avoid missing any items from trunk using vallet parking, use the main key,put the clip down and hand that to the person who is assisting you during vallet parking.
You can try this I think the latch is just slightly missaligned.Did you put something in the trunk and push down on the trunk?Try to push down hard on the trunk where the latch is a few times while pressing the remote. If this works and it opens look for marks on the latch indicating rubing, file down, spray with WD 40.Good Luck.
when you hit the key and hear the motor push down on the trunk a few time. quick and hard like you are doing a cpr chest compression. I know it seems counter intuitive to push down to open the trunk but it just may get it un stuck. I know someone who had to do this every so often to get in their trunk
It is your wiring coming out of the trunk on the left side. One of the wire are cut because in cold weather when you open the trunk, wire can't move easily in the plastic tube. Sorry for my english.
I will do it in my own way since the wiring is messed up, and when i press close on my Remote, the trunk pops open.
I will Harness this problem to benefit me since my remote does not have a trunklid switch.
I will route the Motor (that has a piston) wire through the switch relay (located just above the vehicle ID plate area), so that opening the trunk lid is only possible when i keep pressing the trunk open swich (on the trunk lid) while at the same time pressing the close/LOCk button on my remote.
