Car stalling out and bot starting after being driven for awhile.

I have a 2000 Dodge Stratus with 2.4 liter engine. While shopping the other night the car just died in the shopping center after about 1 1/2 hours of driving. The first time it stalled out it started right back up but stalled out again right away and this time it would not start. If you wait about 5 minutes the car would re-start but would only run for a few minutes before stalling out again. This continued like this for the next 20 minutes before I decided to park the car. I came back to it about 2 hours later and started the car up and it ran fine for 15 minutes so I decided to drive it home, which I did with no problems. Over the last couple days I would run the car since it was cold out and it would run fine with no problems. Today I took it out and drove several places which took me about 1 1/2 hours and again the car stalled out and wouldn't start for 5 minutes or so but when it did start up again it would only run for a couple minutes and the stall out again. I waited again about 2 hours like the other night and started the car and was able to drive it home again with no problems. Please does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong. All help is greatly appreciated.

Mcdevito75 Here, It"s possible the ignition Module is going bad, no way to test and if so, one day the car will not start at all.----------It can also be a vapor loc, wher the fuel is evaporating before it reaches the cylinders. Best Bet, have your local shop check both these items.

I have a dodge stratus 2000 with 2.4 liter dohc motor, ran fine then stalled once started right no spark will not start

Try using one of the old plugs and connect it to #1 and a good ground then try starting to visually confirm if spark is/is not present. Its much easier to see the spark in the dark. If you get a spark the problem is not electrical and could be a bad ground between the plug and the block, rarely happens, but not unheard of.

2000 Stratus will not shift out of second

Indications are that the transmission has some serious issues. You may want to call a reputable local transmission shop and explain the situation, including the codes. They can give you your options. But I suspect you need the transmission rebuilt or replaced.

CK the MAF sensor in the intake duct. If it's dirty, clean it with electrical spray cleaner and let air dry. It's in a metal tube section and you can see the wires The cleaner will dry itselfso do not use compressed aur and don't touch the sensor. Good Luck, Ned
