These lights are computer readings. When a sensor reading goes bad, it tells the computer, then lights up the dash light. What you need to do is go to your local Advance Auto, or Auto Zone and ask for a computer diaglosic test. They will do it for free. If you have a car that they can not plug in to like a Ferrari, then you should go to your car brand's dealership. A diagnostic test will tell you exactly what sensor is reading trouble and send you down the right path to repair instead of running around.

What will make my 1998 ford explorer turn over but not start. no fire in coil. we changed the coil and still no fire. checked all fuses, their fine. checked fuel pump- we can hear it kick on when key is...

Put key in IGN and turn to run. All warning lights should come on, including the check engine light. Then turn the key to crank. As the engine cranks and the crankshaft position sensor detects rotation and reports it to the PCM, the check engine light should go out. If it stays on, the PCM isn't getting input from the crankshaft postion sensor. Check the connection or replace the sensor.

Engine management light reset

The car is trying to tell you something - limp mode is there to protect the engine if a serious problem is detected. Stop driving it and get someone out to scan the codes and diagnose this.

Maintenance reqd light came on at 44,000 miles...why?

It's probably your regular scheduled maintenance (oil change) light. Here's how you can reset that:

1. Turn the key to "on" so the electrical system is fired up (but engine is not running)

2. Set trip planner to "A" trip.

3. Turn key off (no electrical)

4. Hold down trip button, then turn key to "on" so the electrical system is fired up (but engine is not running).

5. "Maint Req" light will blink several times and then go off.

Good luck!
