Change break pads - 2000 Volvo S40

Typically pads need to be changed more than once before rotors needs to be *replaced*. Most shops machine rotors when changing pads to give them a smooth, even surface. Machining removes groves that cut into them as a result of normal wear (or if pads are not replaced promptly). Machining can straighten warped rotors due to excessive heat / quick cooling. These are definitely NOT considered "worn out".

Worn out rotors must be *replaced* if they are too badly damaged, rusted, etc. or if they have been machine so many times that they are too thin to safely brake the car. There are specific guidelines that spell out exactly how thin rotors can be before they must be replaced. Mechanics measure the thickness of the rotor with a micrometer which reveal thicknesses to the 1/1000 of an inch.

Need more information to see whar are you trying to do? You want to change to ceramic pads? You want to know if they will break better yes they are good pads. Wagner pads are one of the best to use

1.jack up both tire.
2.remove tire.
3.unbolt break caliper.
4.remove old break pads and take cap off break fluid.
5.use pliers or c clamps to push back in caliper to sit ffush.
6.install new break pads
7.reverse process

Make sure you replace both your rotors & pads. Don't just replace one side.

Drums Probably Have Deep Groove Cut In Them--BACK OFF AJUSTERS--This Will Allow Removal.

did you turn the break setting all the way in when you installed new pads.if you didnt adjust the breaks then your breaks are pushing to far out and not returning properly.adjust the pads with the adjustment usually accesible threw rear side of drums

With a code scanner or I do beleive it will clear after 100 starts.

Well the first thing U need to do is clamp off your break line,{u only have to do this if it has abs}which that year.then you nee to break open the break bleeder vavle.Whants you have don this then you are raedy to unbolt the break housing and remove the breaks and replace.Put back togather and close the bleeder vavle and take the clamp off the break line.Now you are ready to bleed the breaks.The same way for all four.{if your car has disk breaks in the back}
