2002 GMC Sierra 1500 fuel system

2002 GMC Sierra 1500

Engine was running rough for a few weeks. Acted like it wasn't getting enough fuel. Would bog down during accelleration. One day it I turned it off and it hasn't started again since.

Changed fuel filter. Not it.

Changed fuel pump. Not it. The pump itself does work. It pumps when power is given to it directly from the battery. I began to look toward electrical.

Hooked it up for diagnostics I get only code p0452 evap system which makes sense since the top of the tank was open at the time.

Changed fuel pump relay. Not it.

Began checking every fuse I could find. Checked everything driver side beneath hood. Driver side between the door & the steering wheel. Driver side down by pedals further. Are there more to check somewhere else?

I have 12 volts at all the fuses but at the connector plug (the one that plugs in directly on top of the tank) I have only 5 volts.

When that plug is plugged in and I test where the wires plug into the pump itself I have no volts.

Voltage tests were done with key off, key on, and even cranking the starter a bit while testing.

Any ideas or suggestions?

First off do not use a test light. use a circuit tester. what you saw as 5volts is called a reference signal. the cars computer(much like your home computer)works only off 5 volts. if you use a test light(the old kind with a light bulb.)you will fry the computer. second, are you saying the problem is still occuring after these parts have been changed?

first run a compression test. second, unplug the mass air flow sensor and see if it starts. if it starts, replace it. while the spark plugs are out check them for fuel fouling.

starting definately has a lot to do with the crank/cam position sensors, but it wouldnt have nothing to do with hot or cold weather, oxygen sensor will make the vehicle run too rich if its out, you will smell fuel very strong out the exhaust, that could make it run sluggish also, and usually if the mass air flow sensor goes out the vehicle wont start at all...

Okay....you haven't listed your vehicle engine size and that wouold help on a few things, but I can tell you a couple of answers:

Check your fuel system pressure; should be at least 60 psi (Need engine size to let you know exact psi, but 60 psi is the average)

Check your engine oil level, your radiator fluid level, your transmission fluid

Your problem could be a few things but this is a start....post your engine size please.
