I have a 2003 Nissan 350Z, Touring, automatic. I drove to my workplace and came back 2 hours later. When I started it, the ATC (Auto Traction Control) and SLIP light came on, as well as the "check engine soon" light. The car was unresponsive to the accelerator and would only travel about 10 mph. I parked it when I reached the lower level of the garage, shut the engine off and opened the hood to see if a belt had snapped. All seemed fine. I got back in to drive to the street so that AAA could come and help me. When I did, the car responded as always, just fine, except that I have my check engine light on. I'm going to take it to the dealer tomorrow and was wondering what I should expect. Thank you for your time, Ray Henley 703-922-8724 (home) 571-275-4272 (cell) Alexandria, Virginia 22310

? Even with the Traction control light and Slip light on? I thought this would simplify issues. Why doesn't it?

  • Anonymous Dec 26, 2009

Just to make myself clear. I understand that, by itself, a "check engine light" illumination could be one of 100s causes. However, as I mentioned, this light only turned on upon my Traction Control light and my Slip light also illuminating.

Surely this would narrow down the possible causes of the check engine light. No?

ps. please do not tell me that my traction control is not functioning properly. I'm only a pharmacist and could figure that one out. I just wanted to know the possibilities given the entire picture.

    Thank you for your time,

I realize that there are plenty of reasons for a check engine light to illuminate, but given my circumstances, with the traction control and SLIP light illuminated as well, I believe this should narrow things down a bit.

    Thank you for your time.

The Nissan dealer informed me that the stored codes led them to a short in the throttle body. The repair cost was approx. $300. All is well.

Given that there were so many, variable answers, I didn't want to waste your time.

Thank you for your time and effort.

This is probably going to be a simple glitch which can occur in severe wet and cold conditions. get the codes and then we can do some research depending on what the dealer says. they all work together so its not suprising they all came on. the reason you only got to 10mph was in was in limp home mode. this could be a battery issue. have it tested for integrity as the weather will play hell with batteries and cause all kinds of real goofy issues. let me know and happy holidays

You may find any of a huge range of issues but the engine code scan is the best first step. However, you can get the scan info yourself for free at an auto parts store, eTher than paying the dealer to do it. Click my screenname, go to my Tips and Tricks, and the procedure is there. Follow that and post back up with codes you retrieve and we can go from there.

There are 100's of poss trouble codes that keep the check engine light on, so without the test results it is hard to say what the dealer will find.

With snow car does not have any power, we turn tcs off no help

Don't turn off traction control - it helps the car maintain traction.
A 350Z isn't a car that should be driven in the snow.
If you are rolling down a hill you have other issues.
Does it roll back if it's on dry pavement?

And remember snow makes tires slip.

My nissan 350z sometimes stalls after starting

after i replaced the battery in my 2003 350z, it would stall immediatly after i cranked it on unless i gave it a little gas. I fixed this by cleaning the MAF and throtle body valve. Total supply costs were $15 and took about 20 minutes. My Z is not only fixed but runs smoother and cleaner.

I had a oil change from Nissan dealership for my 350z 2004 turing and when i drove after oil change, car was loosing speed slowly and all the lights on odmoters came on and died. After i turned ignition...

I think its your alternator or a sensor that is causing the problem, I would get a diagnostic check done and usually the codes narrow it down to the main problem. good luck i hope its nothing major
