There is a squeaking sound when the steering wheel is turned

There is a squeaking sound when the steering wheel is truned all the way in one direction. I appears to be a squealing belt but since it has a serpentine belt then I would not think it is the belt. Is this a signal that the power steering pump is going out?

Are you holding it at the end of the power steering travel? this can cause the squeal, also is the belt more than 30,000 miles old? is it an OEM belt.

2007 cadillac esclade ext front end squeaking.

well it can still be anything, locating a steering/suspension noise can be hard. Based on what you typed, what first comes to mind is the steering pump is worn out. If it is more of a low whining sound instead of squeaking, its probably the steering pump.

2002 chevy blazer steering wheel squeaks bad while turning

It the "squeaking coming from the steering wheel itself, or from the vehicle when the wheel is being turned? If it is the wheel itself, the only ting you can do to remedy that is to disassemble the steering column to lubricate the insides. If it is the vehicle that squeaks/squeals when the wheel is turned, then it is probably one of three things. From most likely to least likely they are:

1. Worn out/glazed serpentine (drive) belt
2. Defective belt tensioner
3. Defective power steering pump (or low fluid in reservoir).

2004 Mazda tribute steering wheel squeaking

Well a steering flush would not necessarily be related to squeaking.

So, you need to locate exactly where the sound is coming from...
It really sounds like steering wheel turning and resistance causes the noise, is this constant, or only while actually turning the wheel?

Likely it would be semi constant, so that would focus you on the assist portion... Be careful around all moving parts, but you need to locate the source.

Try taking a section of heater hose, and listen through one end and move carefully around with the other end and see what you find. Likely something under the hood, with your note about window open...

Now, if the squeaking stops when the steering wheel stops turning, now steering components are suspect.... So, again, louder with window down makes me think outside and in front...I would stand in front of the car, have your handy assistant actuate the steering wheel, and you decide which side, right or left.... Suspect items that squeak only during steering wheel input include, amongst other things, the entire strut, all ball joint, including joints in the steering linkage.... Be sure to keep clear of moving parts, your handy assistant would not know they they are crushing you, while truning the wheel......

more than likely your power steering pump check it's level if it's low or really dark take it to have it looked at, if not then check your belt if it's getting streached it will slip when your turning the wheel and using pressure from the powersteering pump. hope this helps
