I own a 2002 landrover discovery 2 and my heat takes a long time to get hot even when the temperture gage is in the middle and the engine is ready to drive. Once driving it slowly gets warm. The colder it is outside the longer it takes but I think its taking way longer than it should. What do I need to repair this?

This is normal in the cooling system as it heats up it will pressurise this is why it is dangerous to remove the reservoir cap on a hot engine as it will shoot hot water out if it pressurising when the engine is not being run it could be that you are using water and not coolant in the system and it is freezing and defrosting this is dangerous and the system should be flushed and replaced with suitable coolant
check your coolant level and top off if needed. its probably time for a new thermostat as well. make sure you get one from land rover when you do this and the proper mix of coolant and distilled water depending on where you live. cheers.
First of all, it doesn't sound like your thermostat is working correctly to keep good hot/warm air coming , so I would change that, or have it changed for better heating inside. If you lift the hood & look in front of your radiator, On the engine side, you'll see a fan attached to, or in front of the radiator. It won't come on until the coolant temperature gauge gets up to proper operating temperature. Without getting in to too much detail, have your thermostat changed, and my guess is everything else will start working as it should, and whoever does the work, should know enough to check the fan operation when they do the thermostat.
Check for an OBII code. have it scanned for free at an autoparts store. it is not the thermostat since you have already replaced it 3 times.Check for the temperature control sensor during scanning..
Plenty off coolant in reservoir? Does the car overheat during normal driving or only on trips?
Does the car run rough and do you have white smoke coming from tail pipe?
If not then it could be 2 possible items
First check the viscous fan clutch is no frozen, this is the unit in the middle of the plastic fan, it should spin freely with a slight bit of tension. Or the radiator more and likely is clogged, I would suggest you remove the radiator (or get your mechanic too) and get it rodded-out.
Hope this helps, and don't drive the car hot, you could cause major engine damage on this vehicle if your not careful.
