2000 saab 95 wagon,2.3t. oil pressure light came on. checked and filled oil, about 2 quarts. light did not go out. driving on highway, car shut down when check engine light came on. now car will only run for a few seconds at a time, check engine light comes on and vehicle shuts down.

Check the base of the oil dip stick (ON THE BLOCK SIDE / under the car)

A crack at the base of the dipstick tube will care 2-3 quarts of oil spillage.

The only fix is to replace the oil tube on the bottom end,

The oil light does not indicate the car is low on oil (based on your discription) it indicates the oil pressure is low, the no start is most likely due to this low pressure and the fuel pump has been cut off to prevent damage to the engine from low oil pressure. Please have a shop locate the cause of the low oil pressure warning and repair it as needed. It could be a false light or a real one, which means if you drove it very far you may have damaged the engines bearings.

I hope you win your bet but, the drain for the oil is center of the oil pan. There are no other drain plugs near that. They may have drained the differential or transfer case by mistake if that is a front wheel drive. If they over filled your engine oil they should be repairing the engine though. Transmission fluid is red and it would have been obvious they drained that by mistake so I would agree that wasn't what was drained.

Worn valves.

87 octane ,,,you kidding ---more like 95 octane .But this has nothing to do with the vibration and check engine light,forget having the codes read get the dealer to look at it

yes this may be the problem i would recomend changing the oil sending unit first and if this does not fix it replace the oil pump and you should not drive it with no oil pressure it can burn up the bearings in the motor

water temp switch faulty.

are driving this wioth the light on? have the pressure checked with a test gauge, if pressure is ok have the sending unit for the gauge repalced.

IF THE BULBS ARE OK CHECK THE HEADLIGHT MODULE(IT LOOKS LIKE A RELAY, ORANGE CASE I THINK) TRY WIGGLING IT,IM PRETTY SURE THATS IT. THEY GO BAD ALOT ON SAABS. IT SHOULD BE IN THE ENGINE CONPARTMENT

The light you're referring to isn't a check engine light, the check engine light merely says "check engine" in orange and is on the lower right hand side of your instrument panel. It is reserved for telling you that something annoying is happening with your engine, but is usually related to a bad sensor reading in your emissions control system.

That other light, (the exclamation point in the red triangle, in the center of the instrument panel,) indicates that something very bad is happening with your engine, it only comes on if continued driving could severely damage the engine. I highly recommend against driving it at all, as doing so will probably just make your problems worse.

What's your temperature gauge reading? If it's going really high, or remaining pegged at the bottom, you may have some kind of coolant system issue, and the motor is shutting down due to an overheat. (Which can then result in a blown head gasket, which I have done...)

I have experienced this twice: once due to a coolant line blowing and overheating my engine, and once due to a major oil leak. (Oil running straight out of the bottom as soon as I put it in. Yikes!) Neither of these problems is something you want to drive your car with until you have discovered the source of, and rectified; the problem. Check all of your fluids and oil, watch all of your gauges, and see if anything out of the ordinary is going on.

If you can't see any obvious reason for this, take it in to the shop, because your car is trying to protect your engine, and getting an estimate is a lot cheaper than replacing your engine.
