My 1999 Grand Cherokee Ltd. (Quadratrac) is not going into 4WD when the wheels spin on ice/snow. Is this a big deal and require a Jeep Dealer to repair, or will my neighborhood garage know how to deal with it?

Ummm if you have the 1999 jeep grand cherokee (limited) Quadratic (like i have) that means the jeep is 4WD all time!!! it could be a problem with your tires be bald!!! I put snow tires on my Quadratic 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it works fine on snow and ice and the reason is because its never out of 4WD because its all time 4WD

2001 4.7l diesel. Does it have a limited slip differential?

4wd or NOT, 2wd, but 4wd both ends match.
well , not wanting to pulled cover off and have GL5 lube all over
or #2 googling for all Jeep axle codes. (your call)
there is no CHEVY RPO code build list\
#3you call jeep dealer give VIN and he tells build list to you.

or the tests. #4
put car in 2wd, but one rear tire on ICE or wet grass
then move forward quick. (gas pedal

if both tires spin car moves is Positration clutch packed rear gear set.(or lockers of many kinds)
if limited slip 4 gears only then one tire on grass /ice only spins fast and car does not.
there answered all 4 ways.

ok way #5, rear tires off ground both, ON JACKS STAnds safe.
in neutral 4wd box or. if not 4wd tranny in neutral.
hand spin 1 tire and both turn same direction for locker.
if it 1 spins backwards the axle is open (limited slip)
open is 4 gears (side+ spider)
Lockers have a locker or clutch pack just like seen in the A./T BOX.

lockers have vast names. but all lock up some way.
open axles means sans/locks.
I love lockers. saved my bacon vast times. even pulling super heavy boats out of the ramp, and zero slip. 2 tires spin is JOY.
even 2wd drive with a locker is a joy. on snow and ice too.
1 wheel drive is for squids.

98 Grand cherokee all time 4x4 wont shift into 4 lo

older post 1month
you failed to say what tires are touching, dry pavement or ice/snow or off road...... MATTERS big time.......!

the operators guide tells you not to do that.
the rules for 4Hi and low are different. RTM? yet?
last year ZJ
Quadra-Trac(tm) NV242 box. it is. full and part time box.
what does it (oper guide)tell you.
stay out of part time on dry roads. (clear?)
rule 2, save rule for Low Range.
low range is not full time 4wd.
if you fail to believe it , it will wind up and go crunch

here is the direct quote.... see last line,,, its 100% real.

25794037-bn3fg1eepmrl330iewfulw43-1-0.jpg i you had the NV231 box, all gears are Part time, all 4wd gears stay off dry pavement.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD V8 4-wheel and there is a "rattling" sound coming from area of the left front tire.

Is this the same problem you were having a year ago, or was that a bad tire ?
Usually a rattle is caused by something loose, such as a strut mount or a ball joint.

What is the proper tire for the 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo

Trick question.....no fair!!!!!!

Seriously, it depends on your application. I had a 1999 and now drive a 2001......

The best advice will be from a good tire store... I can only offer you what I know based on experience.

A good "All Season" M/S (mud and snow) tire rated "Traction A" is OK for "all season" driving UNLESS you are facing allot of mud and snow!

If so, you need "off road" or "snow" tires.... if you are looking at lots of ice on the road, you need to have them "studded". You will have to change this type of tire after the winter season is over as required by law. Also, these tires make allot of "road noise" and are unsuitable for things like commuting down the freeway.

You will get the best advice from your local tire dealer because even though we can give you generic answers like those I just provided, your local tire dealer can understand much better exactly what you want to use your Jeep for in your particular neighborhood, and give you exactly what you need.

In deep snow what mode do u drive in

under 35mph its normally recommended that you utilize 4 wheel low it is good for maximizing the torque needed to pull out of deep snow. Moderate-Aggresive Mud and Snow tires also work hand in hand. ~Daniel.

How to shift from 2wheel drive to any of the 4 wheel drive modes thank you

if I'm not mistaken, it has the shifter for the 4wd just to the left of the gear shift? In that case, the best way it to stop, put the gear shift in Neutral, then place the 4wd selector in your mode of choice.
