2002 Sebring Lx Sedan Was driving home from work yesterday and while at a light felt a "thud, thud" in the transmission. Thought nothing of it, since it is kind of jerky to begin with. Then, when picking up speed the transmission seemed to disengage or shift into neutral. I slowed to a stop and shifted gears up and down until it finally reengaged. Then when accelerating I was hearing a loud whining sound toward the front of the car. This cycle kept repeating, fortunately I was able to limp home driving the car. Any thoughts? The car has 101k miles on it. I bought it with about 75k miles. Thanks!

time for a transmission rebuild i had the same problem it was the hydraulic pump that shifts the gears

it sounds like the transmission solenoid or possibly the transmission itself trying to go out

most likely a valve body or a shift solenoid issue, but at the very least the trans pan and valve must come out and or be replaced, those 2 parts are fairly expensive, but don't know how much and don't wish to mislead you, have the shop look at it, u can always decline the repair.

The check engine light came on probably because it detected an error with your car. In this case, it sounds like the error is with your transmission. Most likely a bad solenoid. Bring the car to a place like Autozone where they will scan your car for free to retrieve the code(s) that will point to where the issue is.

Car won't go in reverse

when reverse fails the tranmission is done, the part that causes this is deep inside the transmission (reverse apply band), this means u must tear the trans down to replace it, then u need to install a seal kit, that means an overhaul, the labor is the same

Code PO740 and PO700 show on scanner for 2002 Chrysler Sebring LX. What's going on?

Best to have a transmission place work on this.
Here are the meaning of the codes:
P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

It maybe cheap to fix like a bad sensor. Or it maybe something serious going on. Best to have a transmission shop check it out.
