We can here,
your van is going into "limp mode"
when the computer does not get a correct signal from transmission it will not shift because it doesn't know your speed or engine RPM,
Three sensors on the transmission will trip it into limp mode,
1= output sensor,
2=input sensor,
3=speed sensor,
if you have it checked and get a "P0000" type code
it will tell you which one

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2009

    input and output are not speed sensors,

    the speed sensor is its own sensor,

    what code do you have?

  • Anonymous Dec 18, 2009

    He will have to have codes reread with an OBD2 reader,

    No "C" codes found.

    if you even take it to a dealer and have them check the codes it will only cost $40.00,

    Tell them you just want all PCM,TCM,ABS,Air Bag, computers checked for codes,Then you will have a code starting with the letter "P" followed by four didgits ,

    Sorry I can't help you with this tonight.

2012 Crysler Town and Country Not shifting

Sounds like sticky shift solenoids. You need an auto-electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer. The $5,000 ones can tell the solenoids to operate and verify that they have.

96 town and country wont turn over and shift indicator does not show park

It sounds as if your shift cable is out of adjustment. If you remove the air filter box and the hose at the throttle body you will be able to access the transmission shift lever, on top of the ******.Loosen the cable adjusting screw that is on the lever. Pull the lever all the way to its detent position which is Park. Release the parking brake and rock the vehicle to assure that it is in Park lock. Reset parking brake. In the cab, place the Shift lever in the Park position, return under the hood and tighten the cable adjusting screw. Your van will only start when the transmission is in Park or Neutral. Hope this helps! Dan Williams

96 chrysler town country wont shift into third gear

If it starts out in 2nd gear & dosn't shift, it is probably in a limp in mode. the system will need to be diagnosed & computer satisfied. sometimes disconnecting the battery will reset the computer & allow the trans to shift untill it sees the problem again. I recomend getting the codes read first so the memory will not be erased.

Could a bad 02 sensor affect shifting in my 1996 chrysler town & country? When I started having problems I put a scanner on it, and the only code it put out was for a oxygen sensor. Could the 02 sensor...

Yes, the car will probably shift harder (if it has an automatic transmission) and it won't shift correctly when you try to accelerate at speeds over 30 MPH (it will downshift too many gears).

1996 town and country shifts hard and it sometimes wont shift at all, reveving the engine going but making the engine work really hard. If I stop the car, turn it off, restart it, it usually will shift...

not sure on this but i think their is a computer to control the gearchange ,where it is i can only hazard a guess and say its under the passenger floor .but check the oil level first before you do anything else

2007 chrysler town & country 3.3

If it is always shifting firm, I would suspect it is in the control. Perhaps the computer needs to be flashed at the dealer. A line pressure reading should be done to verify the pressures are correct.
