THE JUMPER CABLES WERE OF A TOO LIGHT OF GUAGE WIRE. THERE SHOULD BE A BATTERY FUSE LOCATED IN THE FUSE BOX IN THE DRIVERS SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

What number fuse sockets are the security system and ignition switch in it doesnt make a sound in the starter but when jumping across post on selonoid it sparks but turn key nothing happens

if the battery is good.
and charged.
then the solenoid jumped will crank engine,(not start if you keep keys in pocket)
if that hot wire test fails and the battery and its lugs not green.
then the starter is bad.
try using a fresh known good battery first.
or jumper cable (AAA style) jump start it off a running donor car.
if the hot wire fails now, the starter is bad or the enigne is siezed.
can you spin the engine by hand, (using a socket and breaker bar , keys again in pocket::>?)
battery >>>>>>cables>>>>>starter.
this is all it take to crank the engine, just that. if you know how to hot wire a solenoid, do you? the switch below is just a jumper wire or even old screwdriver blade.

battery needs to be 12.6vdc rested, is it ? or more.
less is discharged(and normal temps, not -40F)

the oldest GC.
see photo below... jumper at J.

Starting

Charge your battery, clean your terminals and see what happens. If you don't have a charger, clean the terminals and try jumping it again. Make sure you have quality jumper cables.

1997 ford escort battery new battery dead overnight no electrical works no blown fuses jump start and cables start to melt will push start and run

Check battery cables are correct ! Prime suspect here ! Alternator may be damaged and shorting .. Don't drive any car that will melt jumper cables ! Something very basic wrong here.

Okay so i left my lights on the battery went dead no big deal. i called a friend to come jump me and the jumper cables got really hot and melted together, we put them on right and everything too. it was...

if the car battery goes flat you must first reset the immobiliser BEFORE you turn the engine over, otherwise it will run then stop .the clicking noise is the starter solenoid trying to engage but not having enough power to kick in properly.reconnect the correct guage of jump leads.(heavy duty)

Car wouldn't start, fried jumper cables when trying to jump start, replaced battery and when going to install new battery started melting the terminals as I was hooking up the cables. Already have changed...

something is shorted out and should be getting hot as blue blazes..you must find the short...it will be something that is NOT FUSED ie starter or alt or a heavy wire or battery cable

Where to connect jumping cables on the battery

Dead car --- Red to + ... Black to -

Hot car --- Red to + ... Black to any metal car part away from the battery. Let the hot car charge the battery for a couple minutes before you try it. Try it. IMPORTANT: DISCONNECT THE HOT CAR BLACK JUMPER FIRST, then take the black off the dead car. Then disconnect the dead car red and then the other end on the hot car.

The acr would not start. Battery works. I banged

If you banged on the starter motor and it started then you have a stickie bendix drive and solinoid sticking
But if you have to also jump start it as well then do this.....When it wont start before doing anything else turn on the lights and hit the starter and if the lights go dim or go out the battery is no good or you have a short in the eletc ...so take battery lead off for 2 days and if starts you have a SHORTin the eletrics

Jump start won't work on my 2004 Touareg V6

It all depends on several variables.
  • Were the connections clean? (battery cables and posts
  • Did you have a good connection with the jumper cables? (some battery posts are hard to get at and clamping a jumper cable can be difficult)
  • How long were the jumper cables left on? (weaker batteries will require leaving the jumpers on for a longer period of time (15-30 minutes)
  • Was the other car running? (jumping battery to battery will have the same effect as jumping alternator to battery)
  • Was the car with the dead battery warm or cold? (if the car you're trying to start was hot, it may not be the battery that's at fault
If the car you're trying to start is cold, ensure your battery connections are clean (manually cleaning is better but there are some very good sprays that work pretty well.  Leave the jumpers on for a longer period of time with the other car running.
I hope this solves your problem.  Best of luck.
