I am having a problem with my PCM 2 navigation. Everything on the unit works perfectly except the navigation. The radio, cd, menu, trip computer all work 100%. When I activate the navigation, everything seems fine but the map doesnt update. It might update once every 20 min. When I press info, it shows the coordinates but the data does not update the map. Sometimes the coordinates lock up and dont even move, but even if they are moving, the map doesnt update. I brought the car to the dealer but they could not fix the problem. They suggested I replace the MAP CD because they are known to go bad. If the MAP CD doesnt fix the problem, then they suggested I replace the whole unit which would cost over $3,000. I went and purchased a brand new set of MAP CD's from the dealer and still same problem. I did some research and obtained the software cd's from porsche. I reloaded the software on the unit. The unit reads the software from the internal cd rom and loads it into the unit. In order for me to reload the software, I downgraded from version 3.0 to version 2.0 and then back to 3.0 otherwise if 3.0 is already there, it will not prompt you to update. After reloading the software, the unit still had the same problem. I then located and purchased another PCM unit on ebay. After installation, the unit had the exact same problem. Everything worked perfectly except the navigation. I also reloaded the software on this unit and still same problem. I am stuck on this problem and cant figure it out. It is possible that both units are bad with the exact same problem. But what bothers me is that this is not a known problem and the dealer says they have never seen a problem like this. The unis are known to have other problems which affect the whole unit and not just the navigation part.. Has anyone else come across a problem like this?

Unfortunately, the problem is probably inside the head unit (problem with accessing clock memory locations). Since removing the power to reset it did not work, I expect you will have to replace the entire unit.
XL7 not XL-7 (the dash matters big time) i'll guess its a dash.7 REDUX in your post you said fuses are good (tested too) have you checked and reseated the connectors on the OBJECTS that fail>?? (that is free to do)
we now learn many things fail on car, even HEAD LIGHTS????? and no statement of what works. in total! does car drive perfect night and day????? just a clue here, and win big. huh>?
I can't drive your car and see all those many things failing,& that are. ok .. and what does not fail....
but this car has CAN-bus (or the like) a NETWORK for sure, and bus structured.
and does not work like some 1990 Vitara. at all, not even close to same. (forget them...) it's a BUS system. each switch you throw sends a command on the bus. it's failing I bet because of communication errors that you fail to see because you did not use a real scan tool at the time of failure. it must be scanned while failing !
cant fix it if its not broke,...(unless you drive scan and log data. like i do all the time for all intermittent of any kind....)
does it fail engine running? is running battery voltage at 13.3 to 15vdc if voltage is low all computers in car will go nuts. (same with your cell phone) this is a fact and what i check first? valid battery voltages first. 2nd after fuses, (done already) then scan it. using a real scan tool not some relic. a real tool can see all CAN buss errors U codes top the list.
P1,p2, p3 and B codes too.... all seen. failing.
you can buy tools rent tools or get the car scanned failing at any ASE shop. car parts store may have junky or relic tools. (i can name 10 that are) some tools only do old federal P0xxx codes. say some old 1996 tool.
try a real shop and win. really http://www.ase.com/Landing-Pages/Car-Owners/Find-a-Repair-Shop/Shop-Locator.aspx
i cant understand your post. "have time" and (it wont come on) and
or you can use touch, << did you mean Can't ?)
tell that which works and does not. (
media center 730n? this failing
with Navigation?
get it serviced,?
this is what we call the magic features, Uconnect.
(window dressing bad?) DIY ? what are you asking?
Help to do WHAT.?
or check fuses.
is car battery charged to 12.6vdc rested???? or at below 11v.?
does car run and drive? perfectly,
in the shop, they checks fuse, and battery voltage.
then they scan the PCM for errors, if they have errors the fix
that first. like bad comms to u connect/nav, radio , ,etc.
then work up to the actual head. finally replacing it.
these are fancy , complex to the max , high end options.
and when they bust are expensive to fix. '
my guess is you have this system.?
AM/FM (1-CD/DVD/MP3), full map navigation (6.5" integrated touch screen display), 1-disc data drive,
integral satellite & input jacks (RER)
"These radio receivers can only be serviced by an authorized radio repair station. See the latest Warranty Policies
for a current listing of authorized radio repair stations"
this means very special tools are needed to fix the unit
and access to special software updates in the unit.
go to the dealer an get just that.
Check to make sure all fuse associate to the radio/navigation is good, sometime like the acc socket fuse being blown could cause the thing to not work also, so make sure you get to all the fuse to make sure they are not blown. After that, there maybe a fuse located with the navigation unit behind the radio/navigation unit that may be blown. If there isn't or is still good, check all connection to it. If all is good then your unit could be history and you may need to take it to a dealship to actaully see what is going on.
Look on ebay for an REC Joystick replacement. In the mean time you can hold down the middle button on the right side of the back of the steering wheel, where you can control the radio features. When you hold this button down, a little red wheel symbol appears on the navigation screen which means you can control the navigation system from the steering wheel controls. This works for simple tasks until you get the replacement joystick. They are about $30 and take about an hour to install.
Hi , it is posable to change the language on the display , it can be tricky to change , unless you can translate german , other than that you should be able to visit a dealer to solve this problem . regards mark
I replaced my radio/cd in my 2004 touareg with the pioneer Premier AVIC-F90BT. This unit is a double din and fits the opening almost perfect. This unit does everything you can imagine. It took about 10 hours to install, I went very slow and installed all of the features. I got it online for about $640.00 This thing is amazing all steering controls work, it monitors the gages, speed, everthing. This unit will connect with your blue tooth phone. I purchased the HD radio component, and the Ipod connection. Follow the directions and take your time, DO NOT Get rushed. I also purchased a set of 4 keys for the removal of the old radio, they were @ $4.00 for the set.
