Theres dust or muck on the drive shafts and they have a ring of teeth on the ends near the wheels they get clogged up and the pick up sensor cant read it. or.. theres a loose wire on one of your 4 abs sensors on each wheel

Test your oil pressure sender remove wire should be earth with engine stopped. Start car and it should be open circuit... if not
Test your oil pressure manually if ok replace sender
there is a valve/switch on the ABS unit that gets dirty, this is probably the culprit. sorry no help other than that, but its a good starting point and it cured the problem on one that I had.
as the mot only says the "brakes work"to a certain efficiency,(the tester does NOT check the depth/thickness of the pads),chances are your pads/discs are in need of replacement.the pads have sensors in them for wear depth, so when checking the pads, front AND rear the abs sensors can be cleaned, and if done by a seat/skoda/vw/audi dealer they can put it on the diagnostic computer to give you a definative answer (this is cheaper than guessing) I replace the pads myself but get the car "diagnosed"when any red light shows.
It sounds like the engine is running on battery power only. The engine of today`s technology needs the alternator to have enough ignition to run on,lights and computer, etc, will be affected by low voltage, and amps. The alternator is not charging, look for a charging fuse to see if it is blown. If the fuse is fine, replace the alternator, and have the battery recharged on a slow 2 amp charge so it will recover it`s loss of deep cycle amps. This will prolong battery life and alternator. If I can help let me know.Let me know the out come.
Check and see if your alternator is charging Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.
To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!
start by getting a code read,it could be cranksensor or a fuel related issue, give me the codes and i will be able to help, the pd engines are very reliable and dont give many problems
Make sure the battery terminals are secure. Other than that I would guess there is an electrcal fault on the vehicle. I am not familiar with the beetle but think if I were driving your vehicle I would make sure all electrical connections were as they should be.
