The fuel-filter for 2002 Lincoln TownCar is located near the center of the vehicle on the frame rail.
You will need to jack up the back of the car and support it securely on jack-stands. That way you would have enough room to crawl underneath and remove the fuel-filter. Things to watch out before removing the fuel-filter:
a. inspect the outer side of the fuel-filter for dirt, grease, etc. If the outside appearance is too dirty, it would have to be cleaned before removal.
b. Notice the direction of the arrow that's imprinted on the fuel-filter. The new fuel-filter must be installed in that direction of the arrow.
c. Remove the negative terminal of the battery.
d.Turn the power "off" if equipped with air-suspension.
e. Relieve the fuel pressure in the system by removing the fuel-pump fuse. Then crank up the car a few times. Also use some towel to grab the hose while pulling it off the fuel-filter.
f. Be careful of the elbow connectors as excessive twisting/turning could break them.
Torque the fuel-pump retainer bolt to 26- 44-inch pound.

The fuel filter on your vehicle is on the right hand side on the frame rail just in front of the rear wheel.Make sure and relieve the pressure before you loosen the filter or it will spray all over. You can do this by removing the fuel pump fuse and starting the vehicle and let it run til it dies.Turn the key off and remove the filter. You will still get some fuel but there will be no pressure.Don`t forget to reinstall the fuel pump fuse when your done.Good luck.
