There were a total of 5 Transfer cases for the four wheel drive Ram. All were part time and had a low range of 2.72:1. The 1500 featured a NV231 and NV231HD. The NV241 was standard on V8 2500 Rams. The 2500 and 3500 V10 and Diesel featured a NV241DLD from 1994-1997. In 1998, the NV241DHD became a option for all 2500 Rams and was standard on 3500 Rams from 1998-2002. Hope this helps so your going to have to find out which one you have NV231 or the NV231HD. Good luck

My 97, 5.2 runs 200 without AC, if I turn on AC, it goes to 220. Replaced clutch fan, thermostat, water pump, and new cap. Backflushed block and radiator. No results. Why so hot? Only 92K on unit.

dodges run like that. if your worried put a 180 degree thermostat in. maybe even a 160 . wont hurt engine or fuel mileage . my 99 dodge ram 1500 sport runs fine with 160 degree one. hope it helped , good luck

97 Dodge Ram Transfer case locked up would that also be reason truck wouldn't move and when in park it rolled

Transmission Failure of some sort

You never replace a transfer case, you repair yours

What your given with the tranfer is a junk yard unit

If your going to put more money into a 16 year old
& badly rusted dodge & they all rust terribly underneath,
then install Jasper Engine & Trans units

Time to part with it,too old,too rusty,& no reason to have
spent what you did

I bought a 1992 dakota new & only did the water pump in over
18 years, then donated to the veterans & took $500 tax credit

I have a 95 dodge 3500 4x4 service truck when u put it in 4wheel drive it seems like something binds and then pops and then it will roll again im thinking maybe the pinion bearing because i replaced both u...

lift front axle and place on jack stands. place front axle on 4x4 and rotate wheels by hand. If front axles are harder to turn than normal then remove drive shaft from transfer case and rotate front axle once more. this will let you know if the problem is in the front axle or in the tranfer case

Four wheel drive wont engage. Tranfer case is

Sounds like you either have a vaccum leak or your 4 wheel drive actuator is not working to engage the front differential. On my 98 ram there is a black and red plastic lines that are used for the vaccum lines. They are underneath and go from the transfer case to the front axle, check to see if one or both might be cracked or broke completely. If the lines are good then it could be your actuator on the front axle. A new one is about $93 at advance auto parts and not very hard to replace
