Older Cadillac's had a problem with the intermediate exhaust pipe,it is actually two pipes in one, what would happen is the inner pipe would get seperated from the outer and the exhaust would seperate the two pipes and end up blocking off exhaust under acceleration.the more gas you gave it the slower you went.

I had a problem like what you are describing and the problem with mine was the fuel pump was going out. Once I got it fixed it worked like a beast. Replace it yourself and save a lot of money.

Have a 1989 pontiac grand prix 3.1, that runs like crap when warmed up. Pops n cracks, dies. & re-starts on its own. It will die when ur sitting there in gear with foot on gas n other foot on brake....

From what you are saying this problem is when you have your foot on the brake. If that is the case remove and blank of the brake booster vacuum hose and see if the problem persists. If not then the fault will be in the brake booster allowing air into the manifold and up setting the air/fuel mixture and running too lean

1989 Cutlass Ciera 3.3l Stalls, will not idle

if dies immediately when u put it in drive then whats happening is the torque convertor on transmission is lock and need to unplug the electric connector on the transmission cause that's all it controls, if dies in park u most likely its Idle air control valve on your throttle body, if it does it when fully warm ur injectors cause that .... just try to clean idle air control valve first and unplug transmission connector first u should be running better

I have no power and must floor the gas to get to shifting speed after60mph it seems to be fine

I just bought a starter for my 85 Caddi on partsgeek.com for $40.00. Your running problem is a plugged catalytic converter. I just punched mine out and my caddi has all kinds of power. Does the car run crappy after warmed up and driving for a while?

maybe it's the timing chain, turn the crank with a socket untill #1 cylinder is at top dead center, pull off the distributer cap and check which plug wire is the rotor is at.if it's not #1 cylinder's plug wire, the timing chain has jumped.

1989 truck stalls when hot.

Have you chg. fuel filter? If so, best to do a fuel pressure test, sometimes( not always) when the pump gets warmed up they can loose a little pressure and thats all it takes just a few # under recamended p.s.i and the truck quits running, you may hear the pump run but its not putting out the correct pressure until it cools down and it starts working again, but after a while quit all together.

1989 Toyota tercel smoke coming up by ebrake

I think maybe that you have a plugged catylitic converter. When cats get plugged they get hot, very hot. If there is anything onit ie. dirt, road oil, anything at all, it will burn it off. The best thing I can suggest is loosen the bolts upstream of the cat and remove the dougnut gasket. replace the bolts and drive the car. if it runs better then replace the cat. It will be loud, but we just want to look at power and idle.

Try changing the fuel filter. You may want to consider a Weber carburetor conversion. That Asian carb is old
