Try pulling on the hood release, while someone else lifts the hood. If this doesn't work. You can access the underside of the hood release by taking the front grille out. If you look closely you'll see the retainer screws that can be removed from the front. Once the grille is out or loosened enougt to get your hand in behind, you can release the hood latch from the underside with a screwdriver and then repair the hood latch after you've opened it.

Hood release on saturn 96 wont open

Hood releases are typically a braided steel cable that runs from the handle inside the car to the latch under the hood. A couple things could be wrong. Commonly, the cable is stretched; you feel the cable pulling when pulling the handle, but nothing happens. You can pull the handle as far as it will go, then use a pair of pliers to grab the cable and pull it even more. If the handle doesn't move, the cable housing could have been compromised or water has found its way in causing the cable to rust and seize inside the housing. Either way, an auto repair shop could help you out if you are unsure of working on it yourself.

C320 hood release handle won't pop the hood

I don't think there is a day that goes by in the shop where we don't get at least one vehicle that is doing this. Just use two people. One to pull the cable release and the other to slap the hood with their hand and tell it to cooperate. Usually, just a little "jarring" with the cable pulled will get it to pop up.

Hood wont release from interior release. cable is attached to release handle. its on a 1999 passat

try pressing down on edge of the hood as someone pulls the release handle. Or shake hood up and down while pulling the release cable. The cable may have broken at the latch end.

The hood on my 1993 bruick wont open

most likely a stretched cable or frozen latch assembly. The handle for your hood release has a cable behind it. Pull the cable off of the handle and use pliers to pull on it. If the hood opens, you need a new cable. If it doesnt, u need a new latch.

My hood will not pop up when i pull release the cable. I can't get the hood open. Any ideas?

If it feels like the cable is attached when you pull the hood release try having someone push down on the front of the hood near the latch. Once the release is pulled out have the person relieve pressure from the hood once you let go of the release. This works for most stuck hood situations. If that doesn't work try having some one pull up on the hood while the release is pulled. This works when the spring has weakened. Once the hood is opened clean and lubricate the latch assembly to prevent further trouble.

02 intrepid hood safety latch wont release

If you pull on the release handle inside the car and it does not "pop" the hood open, make sure the hood is not already "popped". If it is, then try to push the hood down firmly until it does not pop up anymore. Then, try the interior pull handle again. If the hood is completely closed and the pull handle does not pop it open, try to remove the handle slightly from the dash. This involves removing 2 phillips head screws (one from either side of the handle). When these are out, you should be able to pull the handle and its small trim/holder piece. See if this is broken and try to pull back on the actual release cable ("silver" braided wire) with a pair of wires.

If nothing above pertains to the issue, then let me go to a different one. If the pull handle works fine and "pops" the hood like normal, but you are unable to unlatch the hood, then I need more information as to the conditions of the problem. Has it released properly in the past?

Also, make sure that you are pulling the correct lever when trying to unlatch the hood. Standing in front of the car facing it, the lever will be just to the left of the very center of the hood. It should have a yellow end. Pull up on that and everything should release.

If these ideas do not help you out, then I will need more information. Let me know and I'll be glad to help you through.
