Hi:
Your four wheel drive push button system has only 3 components, so there is a way to narrow down what is blowing the fuse:

the system includes the push button panel and indicator light, the shift control module, and the shift control motor.

The shift control motor is the only part that can draw enough current to blow the fuse. If for some reason the transfer case is jambed up, that could blow the fuse too...So if you are planning on attempting repair yourself:

first, unplug the connector off of the shift control motor, and see if the fuse still blows.. if not, then remove the shift control motor from the side of the transfer case and plug it back in to the harness and see if the fuse blows. If so, then the shift control motor is bad, if the fuse doesnt blow then you need to check out your transfer case.

SOURCE: fuse blows every time four wheel drive button is

You could have a bad wire harness to the electric actuator motor to the transfer case, or you could have a bad electric actuator which is causing your fuse to blow. The wire harness is on the drivers side by the transfer case, disconnect the harness from the electric actuator motor and push the button and see if the fuse blows. If the fuse does not blow, then it's going to be a bad electronic actuator and you can pick one up at the Salvage yard from the years between 1995 to 2001. Dealer Number 15636696 And 8-15636-696-0 / Rectangular 7 Pin Plug Connector / Also Called Encoder Motor Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: transfer case fuse blows when engaging four wheel drive.

Hello;
Sounds like yoou have a short either in the switch pod or in the 4wd electrics. Check for pinched wires or bare wires grounding out at the front axle and at the transfer case.
Thanks;

I have a 2001 F150 king ranch 4x4 that blows a fuse while selecting 4 wheel drive

What fuse blows ? The four wheel drive switch is a input to the GEM - generic electronic control module , low voltage ! There are a few different relays, a shift motor on the transfer case . There could be DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the GEM module . You can find free wiring diagrams at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Do you know how to do basic automotive electrical testing ? When you turn the switch to engage the 4X4 , the GEM see's that input an then energizes a relay to engage the 4X4 . Knowing which fuse blows would cut down on the guess work !

Wont go into four wheel drive lights dont come on

mounted to the tranfer case you will see what looks like a window motor. Round with wires coming out. This is the actuator motor for the four wheel drive. A lot of times if they are not used the brushes will stick in the motor and if they do the four wheel drive will not engage. Sometime you can tap on the motor and it will work. You also will have a fuse for the four wheel drive in your fuse panel. Good luck, hope this helped

When ingage 4wd blows fuse

The four wheel drive actuator is probably bad. The actuator is located on the differential, I think the actuator and the sensor are side by side the actuator is the bigger one. Has 1-1/16 inch hex on it follow the wires back about 6-8 inches there's a plug there unhook the wires, see if the bolws now. If the fuse doesn't blow the problem is the actuator, it just screws out and the new one screws in and plug it in.

Four wheel drive will not engage on 94 1500 where is the fuse for the actuator

Does you heater fan work? For many years Chevy used the same fuse for the 4 wheel drive actuator as for the heater fan. Which I found rather stupid because, if the actuator shorts out and blows the fuse, now your stuck in a snow bank with no heat.

The flasher unit will not cause an overload in the circuit.Activate the four way flasher and if the fuse does not trip then it appears there is a short in either the left or right signal circuit when the steering wheel is turned.The position of the steering wheel will determine which side is shorting out if this is the cause
