My friend, you may be about to blow up the motor.
Would you please refrain from starting this RAV4 until it is fixed, or you may destroy it, if it is not already destroyed.
Since I am so far away from you, my first thought was a stuck gas pedal, I remember them sticking and people dying many years ago. If you cannot take this vehicle to a Toyota dealer, at least call them and ask them about recalls and what might be wrong with it.
God bless your efforts.
I'm guessing the antitheft worked then? Getting the codes and reprogramming a new switch, because it sounds like your switch is damaged probably beyond repair, is most likely a dealer only job. Be sitting down when they tell you how much!!
With most factory installed security anti theft systems, putting anything in the ignition slot other than the proper key will disable the fuel system.
To get your car running again there is likely a protocol you may be able to follow over the phone with assistance of your dealer as long as you can provide them with the necessary credentials to prove your ownership. They should be able to help you get your car running again.
Believe your fuel pump is bad when you first turn on your ignition (don't try to start car) do you hear a clicking or humming noise? If not you fuel pump may not be working also check fuel pump fuse and relay check owners manual for locations.
Hello, the 15A tail fuse is the only fuse in this circuit, yes there is a short to ground, remove all the bulbs in the rear and check to see if the fuse still blows, if not the problem is at the rear lights, possibly a wrong bulb in one of the sockets or s short between the green wires(power) and ground(white/black) wires. If this doesn't stop the short then the problem is up front, possibly a parking or side marker light, do the same, remove the bulbs, if the fuse stays in replace the bulbs one by one until it blows again to isolate which light is causing the problem.
This sounds like it is your ignition module not sending message o your computer letting know that the key is in the ignition and the car has been started. Replace the ignition module
