Tip & How-To about Chevrolet 2500
For those of you that have abs brakes if the brake light comes on what happens Is it goes into standard brake mode. This means that the brakes lock up as if they had no abs system so if you jam the brake pedal down the wheels will stop spinning. If you are in wet weather or on ice it could cause a skid and cause you not to turn while slamming on the brakes. So if you have the ABS light on you need to have them checked but does not mean you have to take it to the shop right then it can be later, be aware that extended use without the ABS being serviced could cause damage to the ABS system. Most ABS lights are caused by a dirty magnetic ring on one wheel, on rear wheel drive cars it could be the one on the end of the transmission or the front of the differential. These put out 2.5 volts dc to test use Digital meter put it on 5 volts dc and spin the wheel with the connector disconnected probe the ring connector to see if yo have 2.5 volts if not it has a broken ring or wire, if the magnetic ring is broken it will have to be replaced. Most models have to have the rotor replaced on the front end and the sensor on the rear end.
