I had the same problem with my Eclipse early this year......my car stayed in the Transmission shop for over 3 months. I was told it the torque converter, then fuel pump, then transmission. They never got the problem solved.

So I order a automatic transmission from http://www.everdrive.com and had it sent to the transmission shop. The Transmission cost around $2400 I think with 3 year warranty.

I still have my old 2001 Eclipse GT Transmission I need to get rid of for a good price.

Why does my 1995 Volvo transmission stop going into gear after it's hot?

1) How's your fluid level?

2) When did you last replace your filter?

3) When it shifted, did it go trough all the gears as you accelerate or did it just stay on one gear and never shifted?

4) How's reverse, does it slip out too after 2 - 3 min?

5) As you first able to shift into gear, you can drive it for 2 to 3 mintues and it just suddenly slip out of gear?

.... could be a number of different things. Maybe even burnt out clutche(s) inside your transmission

Transmission?

sorry, first guess is that your transmission oil pump went out and now you have no pressure to operate the clutches inside the tranny, second is the tranny is "burned' which happens when the transmission filter and fluid were not replaced within a reasonable amount of time and the surface of the clutches started getting worn off,, you would have noticed as you would loose power (acceleration) or not shifting properly over a period of time. unfortunately either one requires removal of the transmission and replacing the components inside..

Transmission just stopped drivingthe car. No forward, no reverse. 2001 mmisubishi eclipse gt automatic trans. Car will not move forward or reverse. It suddenly just stopped drivingthe car one day while...

Probably the wave spring washer which is a common failure on these transmissions. Check the pan for metal parts if this happens. You'll have to replace it if so, but make sure they use the updated, thicker washer (part # 2741A007).

2001 mitsubishi eclipse. Automatic transmission

Transmission may be low on transmission fluid or the transmission fluid pump failed. If it's electrical, you can still get it in to gear, but would not shift gears. Good luck and keep me posted, check transmission fluid level and have the transmission line pressure tested. Before that check all your fuses.
