The metal clamp is supposed to "go-down" the new pads. The metal-clamp must hold the new pads like bread and cheese. The pads (metal clamp) being the bread; the rotor-cheese.
You will have to use a flat-end screw-driver or similar tool to push apart the caliper pistons. Then push down the metal clamp to grip both sides of the rotor.

I replaced front driverside brake pads and the caliper will not fit why ?

If the piston was not compressed completely back into caliper, ( I use a large C-clamp,) then the caliper/brake pads will not fit over the Rotor. Also when you compress the piston back into the caliper be sure the brake fluid resevoir doesn't overflow when the fluid returns during the compression process.

I am replacing the front brake pads, and have removed the old pads. I can get the new pads in place, but cant fit the caliper assembly back on the rotor. what am i missing?

YOU NEED TO SQUEEZE THE PISTON FOR THE CALIPER. IF YOU PUT A LARGE C-CLAMP ON THE OLD BRAKE PAD AND SQUEEZE IT TIGHT, IT SHOULD GO.

Should the center spindle nut and 2 torgued phillip head screws be removed to replace front brake rotor on 1999 honda accord lx

will try to help. 1st remove the wheel, then remove the 2 caliper bolts that hold the brake caliper on. after removal of brake caliper, [it should just pull off after the 2 bolts are removed] replace the brake pads[be sure to apply anti squeal lube to the outer side of the pads..not the pad itself, the one not contacting the brake rotor] install the pads, the you will need a C clamp to push the brake caliper pistons back into the caliper. i've used this installation easily. use the old pad ,place it against the caliper piston, then apply the C clamp and push the caliper piston back into the brake caliper, then the brake caliper will slide back over the new pads easily, no need to bleed the brakes if you use this solution. replace the brake caliper bolts, then go to next side and repeat the process. after the replacement of the front brake pads, pump the brakes with engine running!!! it's really a simple process. be sure the brake pads are facing the brake rotors with the [pads] facicing the rotors. no metal facing metal. easy! if you have added brake fluid recently, do not be alarmed if you see fluid coming out of the brake master cylinder, when you use the C clamp to collaspe the brake caliper back into the recessed position. [as always when you have to add brake fluid to the brake master cylinder,it only means your brakes are wearing naturally. if you have a vibration in front wheels or steering wheel when braking, you have a brake rotor or both front brake rotors that need replacement with your brakes also. hope this helps and as always, please get a second opinion if you have doubt. an expert will be happy to help. thank you for choosing fixya.com

How do i release the brake caliper pistons to be able to fit new brake pads on a renault trafic 08 van. thank you

Renault trafic brake calipers on the front can be pushed in with a G-clamp, but rear calipers need to be wound in, if you look at the piston it has notches for a winding tool!

No do not use a c clamp to press the rotor back in unless you plan on breaking your clamp !!!! On that particular model of (Tiburon) the calipers screw back in.

Need to change front brakes. Grind metal to metal sound. What tools needed and how to do it?

Hello, you will need a a standard socket set, C-clamp brake fluid, jack and jack stand. First open your hood take off the brake fluid cover. Loosen the lug nuts to where can be removed by hand. Raise the car high enough to get the wheel off and support it with the jack stand. Remove the lug nuts and wheel. Lower screw on the caliper, rotate the caliper upward. Remove the old pads, use one of the old pads to push the piston back in th caliper. Align the old pad to cover the piston evenly, using the C-clamp position it to where it contacts the old pad in the center and slowly turn to push the caliper in ward. Once the pad contacts the caliper give another half turn. Install the new pads, positioni the caliper back to the normal position over the new pads, reinstall the lower screw on the caliper. Put the wheel on install the lug nuts in a star pattern, only hand tighten. Remove the jack stand lower the car tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Check the brake fluid add some if needed, replace the brake fluid cap and pump the brakes until the the brakes are firm, start the car pump the brakes a couple extra times and check the fluid add if needed. The fun part the test drive, allow your self more than normal stop distance.

Instructions for replacing brake pads on 2005 dodge ram 1500 4wd

Remove Tire
On the back ot the caliper ( holds Brake pads) there are two bolt or Screws ( usually allen heads) loosen those screws and remove them. pull off the caliper. check your rotor check for grooves and you might want to take them to get turned ( cleans the surface by taking a thin layer of metal off.

Using a C clamp or Disk brake pad tool carefully and slowly compress the piston back into the caliper....Slowly. Pace ne break pads in caliper and slide it back on to the rotor... replacing the bolts tighten them up...replace tire and you should be good to go. Remember to pump you breaks to get the pads to adjust will be soft at first. there should be no need to bleed the brakes.

What tool do I use to change brake pads

Use proper sized socket to take out 2 bolts holding caliper on. Lift caliper up to remove. Open brake reservoir top and use old pad and large c-clamp to compress cylinder back in fully. Put squeek-stop on back of new pads and install the way you took them off. Remember where the wear bar on the pad was.Little metal tab on pad. Bolt it back on and you should be good to go. Shouldn't have to bleed system.

Replacing front brake pads on Nissan 2000 Hardbody model 2000

pull the wheels off .undo brake fluid cover .On the back of rotor there are 2 long pins that you have to remove to pull the caliper off. After the caliper is off pull the old brake pads off ,remembering which way they came off.Now with either a large C-Clamp ,or large channell lock pliers compress the large round metal part that pushes against the back of brake pad.The idea is this, your new pads wont fit on the rotor unless you compress this part ALL the way down, that is why you took the fluid cover off earlier,so the back pressure can go back into the brake fluid reservoir .Once you have this part pushed in ,install the 2 pads and put the whole thing back over and on the rotor .Last of all put the long pins back on tight, put the wheel on ,and now do the other side.............Good luck ! Patience is Key !!
