2000 Jaguar VDP with ~50K miles on, won't start

Greetings,
I have a 2000 Jaguar VDP with ~50K miles on it. Have not had any problems with it to-date. I tried to start it today and it will not start. It sounds like it wants to start but doesn't (meaning it cranks fine and almost starts... so I think it is getting spark, right?..) I am thinking it is not getting fuel. Becasue IF I turn the key in the 'on' position can NOT hear the fuel pump. I think I use to hear it before.... Should I hear the fuel pump clicking with the key in the on position??? I checked the fuel pump fuse which shows as good.... Any advice?

Thank you.

This may be a fuel problem. You will need to gain access to the fuel pump relay or fuel pump to confirm that voltage is available to the pump when the key is in the run position. A simplier way to verify fuel is to hook a fuel pressure gauge to the shrader valve on the fuel rail if one is available.

Hi, I have a 2005 Jaguar VDP 4.2L. Very hard start. Have changed upper intake, Mass Air Sensor, Crank sensor, Fuel filter, some coils 3 & 5. Fuel pump is working. 180k miles

chek fuel pressure test then do a compression test on all cylinders should be at least 150- 175 psi the early engines suffered from prematually worn out nicosil coated cylinder bores but your engine is poss way after that but 1st thing comes to mind is low compression, good luck

2000 jaguar vdp driver window wont open when pushing button you hear it click but nothing happens

give the interior door panel a couple of heavy thumps with your hand it may work again for a while the normal prob is caused by sticking/worn out motor brushes the shock releases them and the motor works again. if so then that confirms the motor needs changing. if not check the wiring/connectors to the motor, but the motor is most likely the cause. hope this helps.

2007 Jaguar VDP

Hey John,

This is very common, because your battery is dead your remote isnt going to work. So what you have to do is look by the license plate light bulbs, their is a key hole wear you can insert you key and open the trunk to charge/ or jump start your battery

DEAD 2007 Jaguar VDP

the battery has gone dead you can not open the boot/trunk with the electrical system but you should be able to get to the battery by using the key in the lock on the outside of the the trunk its either in the xj badge or the number plate illumination holder. if you can open the engine compartment there is battery pos power points so you can jumpstart/power up the car
