OMG! Thank you for your help! I had been experiencing a water leak in the backseat of my 04 Golf where the seat back meets the bottom. Bizarre! No window leak. No door leak. Where was the water coming from? I read your article and yesterday finally got to investigate. I checked under all carpeted areas and in the wheel well. Nothing. Hmmm. I decided to take apart my “trunk” area as well. Nothing still. I thought why not and removed my spare tire and there it was! The missing grommet that was letting the water in from the road and NW Oregon is wet!! I fixed the hole with a rubber plug and silicone. Thank you for your help!! Now I can put my back seat back together. I was afraid of mold. In the 2nd photo you can see where the water had been pooling and the related rust.

Inside the rear wheel well behind the plastic liner there should be a rubber grommet which is used to access different wire harnesses for different equipment. Ex. all wheel drive, HID option with leveling sensor. The grommet might have come loose or is missing and probably has a small tear which let rain water from the road enter your vehicle. Also underneath the rear seat is the fuel tank which has an access port to service wet fuel pump assemblies in the tank. The cover plate must be off it's rest position and letting road water in when it rains.

I remember VW used to have their heater core under the back seats. When the core goes bad, all the water in your radiator leaks under the back seat floor mats. I'm not sure if this is the case, but does your heater work? Do you smell a maple-like odor under the seats? Do you keep filling the radiator a lot? Real puzzle.
Or, it may be coming from under the seats. Water from rainy days may be coming in from under the body. Check if you can see daylight under the seats: Place a high beam light source under the car and see if you can see the light from the inside. It is really a mystery if this isn't the cause.

It could still be a leaking windshield and running under the carpet.
Or it could be a door gasket or one of the roof drains is plugged up.
You may need a body shop to check it out.

I have a rover75classic 54 it is leaking water when it rains on near side is it a useual fault

Had same problem. Lift up rear seat on drivers side and you will see a steel tube running from the wheel arch under the seat. Tube is about 2 inches wide. If this is rusted underneath then water is getting via the wheel arch open end of the tube. It runs into the rear foot well and forward into drivers footwell, also runs under rear seats and into the boot! I removed the rear drivers side wheel, pulled away the plastic wheel arch lining then sealed the hole where the wiring leads through this pipe. Covered it with plastic flashing replaced the wheel arch lining. Took 30 mins to repair, took a week to dry the carpet, rear seats and boot carpet.

2007 buick lucerne w/sunroof water under rear seat

Not really., because the leak could very well be coming from the top or sides of the window and just running down,
Call around to glass shops and explain they'll be able to give you a estimate. Also you could take to a nearby body shop and have them confirm your suspicions.

2003 Ford Explorer My rear wiper fluid is pouring out under the truck when I try to wash the rear window. It looks like it is coming out under the passenger seat. How do I fix it?

It's a loose / broken hose running from the washer fluid reservoir to the windshield wiper. Trace the hose and look for the leak. May need to pull up the back seat since that seems to be where the leak is.

Leaking roof under passenger seat

Have you cleaned out the drain tubes? There is a 'rain rail' underneath the rear lip, which diverts water off the top and down to tubes on each side. The tubes get clogged up with leaves and whatnot. You can use a coathanger to CAREFULLY clear the debris. Check out www.miata.net for more Miata information than you could imagine.
